UPDATE PAGE 2!

Poppy is fabulous with weeing outside, she'll sit at the door and whine to go out - poo's are a different matter, we let he out at traditional poo times but she doesn't go and then she'll come back in slink off and go indoors - if we don't see her do it and catch her seconds later she starts to eat to it.

What can we do? She has burns so a good food, if she goes outside she doesn't try to eat it - help I'm freaking out a little!!

Have you taught her a command for going outside (and not just for wee's?). Also, how long are you waiting outside for her to go? I used to give Bella some of her biscuits on the grass as the sniffing around to find them seemed to stimulate her more to go.

You also need to be careful on how you reprimand her indoors as if you have been very stern or chastised her after the event, the eating may be her way of trying to hide the evidence so to speak. If you do catch her eating it, use the leave command (obviously need to teach her that though Smile

Good luck and hopefully with some patience and persevereance she should soon get the message Smile

We don't reprimand her, no point what's done is done - our fault that she went inside not hers she's only little!! She does have a toilet command and knows it for wees, perhaps I should give her a poo command too!!

She is outside quite a long time, a good 10-15 mins - our garden is very exciting with lots of wildlife smells so I think she's just forgetting to go.

I'll give the biscuit idea a go that might help, thanks for replying x

We had the opposite problem with George, he would go then come straight back in and immediately do a big wee, even after waiting 10-15min!

We used the word toilet every time he went regardless of what it was, so he would know it meant go do whatever you need to do. We also used to go out with him to check what he had done, and he eventually got the message.

Hope she gets the idea soon.

I'm not an expert so this might not be right but if she was mine I would start taking her out every 30 mins or so on a lead to the garden for toilet visits if she doesn't go fair enough back in if she does big praise and treat, helps if you wear clothes with pockets so you can carry treats all the time just for a while. Then when you're indoors restrict her using a houseline attached to your belt if necessary so stair gates or similar so that whatever room you're in she's in that way you will know where she is and what she's doing and if she shows any signs of getting ready to go scoop her up and outside double quick, that should break the habit of going inside and help her understand that you want her to go outdoors and that she's rewarded if she does. It might also help to always take her to the same part of the garden, perhaps near a hedge or trees so that she doesn't feel exposed and she gets to know that is the 'toilet area' not the play area, you can then add a word as well if you want to.

Is she getting enough food? How is it split up? Is her tummy ok? Just to rule those out as reasons why she might want to eat poo.

Good luck.

Thank you, both for your replies.

She's fed Burns, paws - she has 240 grams per day, over 3 days and plenty of chicken/sausages when we're training. Her tummy is fine.

She's not done it for a few days, she did have an accident this morning but did it and left it alone which is better - accidents I can cope with, eating it - not so much!

Well everything sounds in order then Smile hopefully it was just a puppy curiosity thing and she's worked out its not very nice, accidents as you say are easier to deal with! She'll soon be getting it right all the time. Smile

I'm bumping this up again as Poppy has started eating her poo again - inside and outside....if she has an accident indoors she eats it within milliseconds, outside again she finishes the poo, turns around and eats it - short of putting the bag under her bum to get it before she does I'm out of ideas.

Help, please I really need advice on this.

Blimey, this forum is not as helpful and friendly as I remember it to be, bring back the old days.

Thanks to those that replied to my 1st post - I think I'll find another dog forum, people might be more helpful and chatty there.
