... at the situations I meet out dog walking I'd be a much angrier person!
I'm driving to a nice grassy field to walk Luna off lead at the moment. Today I took Tucker along for the first time too. As we are leaving the field after 3 nice laps I spot excited white dogs entering it right on the opposite side. Tucker has been on a long lead all walk as the wind sends him wappy and I don't want uncontrolled play with Luna in open space quite yet, I call Luna and put her on lead as she's been missing doggy plays and I couldn't trust her recall at the moment. We continue to walk towards exit as I hear frantic shouts of a dogs name! We keep walking as ignoring a dog coming towards you is a great way of getting it to appreciate its own 'Mum' but little white terrier thing runs and lies down nearby. My 2 are now interested in saying hi but Luna is lying down next to me, Tucker is standing to one side both staying because we are now close to main busy road and owner is not in sight. Owner doesn't come running around corner, she strolls, we start to move off as mine have lost interest in the white thing and staying BUT little white thing lunges straight into the middle of us, running in and out, around and around - my 2 are barking and trying to avoid the thing, trying to play with it and generally are whipped into a frenzy! I'm standing quietly still with leads wrapped around me waiting for owner to come running apologetically in to grab little white thing so I can restore calm. Dog gets caught by owner when it's running loop takes it too close to her. Phew!
Punchline: Whilst I detangle myself from the leads of my 2 and continue walking short stretch to the main road her only comment is 'You've got your handsful, haven't you!'
What a stupid woman, I`d have been so embarrassed if that`d been my White Fing when she was here (she never went far from me though), she wants to get more control over her white thing!.
Well done Loon and Tucks though for doing nothing more than wrapping you up in leads!
That made me smile, I have had similar remarks from owners of little dogs that are little and cute that have to give the nutty welcome and bounce all over the place when we have finished our walk, mine are usually off lead but in their satisfied mode and doing what I ask but trying desperately to get away.
The problem is the littlens are so spoilt the owners just think 'oh well' they are only playing and let them get on with it, my daughters Cavvys are a bit scatty like that, and when I have them with me they are the ones needing more control than our two, and if I did'nt put the whipper snappers on lead well before returning to the car it would mayhem, [they are just as excited at end of walk as the start ].
I think you have done really well giving Luna her controlled exercise and still fulfilling Tuckers needs at the same time; not sure I would have managed it, our walking place can be really great with many walkers and dogs I know well, but there is always one who has no idea, and causes chaos with our lot, so if we had an injury like Luna I would have to do the walking alone which is a shame.
Your progress updates have taught me loads, and am really pleased Luna is getting nearer to her normal activity .
Silly woman. Probably embarrassed and couldn't quite bring herself to say sorry!
I remember a lady saying similar to me - though she is a nice person and I know didn't mean it badly.
I was stood waiting with three of mine on lead, who were all stood nicely and calmly with me, while her little one lunged at the end of the lead and she told me I had my hands full There are times I have ended up looking a bit like a maypole, with leads going in different directions, but that day they were all just stood perfectly, waiting for her to get passed!

Thanks June, it's amazing what you manage when you have to! It hasn't been easy and hasn't always been stress-free! I have had to find time from somewhere to walk them separately most of the time but as the days got darker and Luna got further on in recovery we have all been out together more and more. Having one off lead or on long line and one on is helping to train them to be steadier around each other. Luna had a bumtuck with a stick when I first let her off lead today, if Tucker had been off lead as well I would have been eeeeek! But he stayed calm but interested and she got to have a safe running burn-off with me able to smile anxiously and begin to enjoy seeing her happy!
There have been some dog walkers I dread seeing on our walks and others it has been a pleasure!
I can't wait to have the pair of them offlead together again!
