Hi everyone.
I am new to the forum and would like to tell you a bit about myself and Labrador Welfare which rehome labrador retrievers in the North Derbyshire, North Nottinghamshire, North Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, and the North East areas. The charity has been around for a good few years, however I have only recently been volunteering and became a member. I have posted on the forum the current dogs we need new homes for. We are always in need of foster homes for the older labradors who find themselves with us for no fault of their own. I will endeavour to keep these up to date. Please feel free to visit our website at http://www.labradorwelfare.org. There is an online application form and June Roberts will always be happy to answer any queries or give support. There are some labradors on there that have been with us for some weeks now and would really benefit from a proper home and love. It would be great to think that we can rehome them all for Christmas.
I have personally owned labradors myself for over 25 years. Funnily however they have always been yellow bitches. Our first dog was Becky and she was very much a laid back pet breed and she grew up with my two sons from being babies. She would walk for miles with my dad and was a much adored friend. In Becky's latter years I re-homed Amber, who was from Northern Labrador Rescue. This rescue centre was the predecessor for Labrador Welfare. I still have Amber and she is still such a character. The first day we got her home she ran around the living room like an idiot, tiddled on the floor and then was into everything. Her first time off the lead involved her running free like a bullet. I wouldn't change her for the world. She had been rehomed the day before and returned to the rescue centre-how grateful am I that they took her back. I love her to bits, even her little short legs.
When Becky went to the Rainbow Bridge I managed to find Arwen. At that time we had got all Amber's KC papers and I knew her breeder. I rang him with the intention of taking on a sister perhaps. Her sister had just had a litter of pups and it was love at first sight for Arwen who was the runt of the litter. Arwen and Auntie Amber went everywhere together. I was devastated in January this year to lose Arwen so quickly after her spleen ruptured with what turned out to be a cancer. I got her home and our lovely vet Alan put her to sleep in my arms. Sleep tight little girl, I still miss her and tears flow as I type. Amber missed Arwen as much as I did and it was only a few weeks when I found Millie. Millie was seven months old, untrained, not named and had never been on a lead or inside a house. She was such a shy girl and had been destined to be a gun dog. Ten months on Millie is such a good girl. She has come on leaps and bounds and absolutely worships Amber. We nickname them pea brain and no brain. Millie is absolutely ball mad. It does mean that we can all go out together, Amber can take her pace and Millie chases back and forth with a ball. Both girls have accompanied me on collection days for Labrador Welfare and looked so smart in their red bandanas. They obviously did the trick and we managed to collect a good amount of cash for the charity. I am also very busy making christmas cards, again to raise funds as it is not cheap keeping them in the kennels.
Each weekend I will go to the kennels and assist with any re-homings which is such a pleasure. I also take as many of the dogs as possible out into the nearby woods for a well deserved break from the four kennel walls. My girls love going out with these new friends. I would take them all home if I could, but my husband does not share the same thought process. He thinks two are enough. Never and I am still working on him. In the meantime I have lots of dogs to love and cuddle.
I don't have much spare time. I work full time and whenever we can we get away in our touring caravan with the girls. Clumber Park at Worksop is our favourite.
I look forward to making some new friends and hopefully finding forever homes for our lovely labradors.
I will get some pictures of my gorgeous girls on here but as yet I cannot get them small enough for the avatar.

Hello I have a lot of respect for anyone working with rescues, I wish I had the right mentality to do it But I know I'd want to bring them all home my husband also thinks 2/3 is more than enough ( even too many)
Look forward to seeing some of your photos
Welcome to the forums, it's great to have you here.
It's heartbreaking to loose a dog to such a devastating illness, sadly many of us have been in your shoes at some time or another and I don't think you ever really get over it or them, they leave such massive pawprints in on your heart.
Many dogs have found homes through this forum, lots of them with LF members, and we love getting the updates on them all.
We look forward to many more.

Thank you everyone so far for the lovely welcome

We are big supporters of the center and even did a sponsored walk up Snowdon a few years ago to raise money for them.
