I used to borrow a lovely lab when living at Shrivenham (ex was in RAF) - it is too nice an area NOT to have a dog to walk around!
Welcome to LF!
To answer your first question about 'The Perfect Puppy' - I didn't know about LF back when getting my first pup - Luna(tic)... and that book was an excellent 'bible' to refer to and gives good advice on how to get pup into a routine. Poor old Luna (now 3 and a half years) had to cope with moving house 6times in 3years and a few hotel/B&B-type temporary homes in between times too (due mostly to military org chaos) so I would imagine that moving about between just 2 homes and the office will be a routine your little choc chip will get used to!
