Trudy is being a good mum and letting the pups on when they want, but, how can I be sure she has enough milk? Sometimes the contented litle noises do tell me they are feeding, but sometimes they are all fighting over teats, falling off and making what seems like 'cross' squeaks. Am I worrying needlessly?? She doesnt like water much at the mo and has a runny bum again!! (this might be coz I am overloading her tummy again??)

This is nearly as bad a when I had my first baby Rolling Eyes

TIA

I think you are probably worrying too much. My pups do much the same and they are HUGE now.

But she does need to drink, which is why my bitches always have Nutrolac. They love it and it ensures that they get enough fluids. They never seem to drink water. I also put loads of water on there food so it is really sloppy then they eat and drink at the same time.

Bitches let down milk, if that makes sense, so I always think when the pups are scrapping over teats etc. they are just sending a message to mum saying - come on then let down some more we're hungry!!

There's probably not much you can do about the runny bum at this stage. Just try to manage it!

Totally what Jill said!!

Tiny request, could you consider posting these in Breeding Trudy, as I and a few others tend to only look in there and a couple of other places and the posts might get lost... glad eagle eyed Jill spotted it. can't speak highly enough of Nutrolac...

Thanks Jill, I have been using Welpi puppy milk for her, a bit diluted, she really loves that. I did wonder if the runny bum was just a normal post delivery thing!

She did drink water with honey in until after whelping when you would have thought I was trying to poison her Laughing

I suppose too, it is only day 3, they were born Sunday eve!! Very Happy

Brooke appreciated her lamlac warm with a good dollop of glucose powder in it, she had a very sore mouth and preferred warm drinks to cold Smile

As Jill said, the more they demand the more she will produce so keep putting them on, mine fed almost constantly in the early days .

My girls always are loose for quite some time after whelping... all those placentas and then the huge extra intake of puppy food does play havoc with their stools so don't worry on that at all as mentioned. Its not NICE but its part and parcel for *most* bitches for a good 2 weeks or more...

I'm with Jac on the glucose powder in whatever puppy milk you choose. I give the girls an inch of warm puppy milk,. fairly watered down with a good few shakes of glucose powder in it 4 times a day from the pups being born onwards. they wee for england but they never fall short of milk Wink

Lats thing, boobs grow as demand grows, so the udders she has now are nothing to the ones she will have in 2 - 3 weeks time Wink

OH right!! Thanks Di, I did wonder if they would get bigger!!

Will add glucose powder to her drinks too! I have started making her meals more like soup and she is ok taking liquid that way Very Happy

She did eat ALL the placentas! Vet said let her have a couple, but it was impossible to take them off her! She is sooooo amazing, I really cant get over how well she is doing given her age!!

Moved the topic for you Marianne Smile , just want to say as well, you are doing a fantastic job with Trudy and her pups, considering you`ve not had experience of this kind of thing before, sounds like they are all doing well and no doubt are being little pigs in the early days Very Happy

Edited to put a missing word in! Rolling Eyes
