We were told to do what Jane did with Indi. She would pull forward excited, tail going and almost making herself sick. Our trainer said quick turn and a "indi heel" with a firm voice and treat in my hand, get her to walk to heel and then when she is relaxed turn around slowly and walk back - we didnt get very far to start with with all the twoing and froing but eventually she got the idea of if you dont behave we will turn around away from the dog and you will follow me! It took a while but now she is great and if i see a dog coming and she is on the extendable i shout "indi sit" and she will if she doesnt a quick tug on the lead to remind her im still attached to her and she will sit i`ll walk up to her lock the lead treat in hand wait for the other dog to walk past and then treat her and lots of praise and fuss and go "indi walk-on" and carry on! It has taken us a year to get to that stage - i wont lie to you! But its worth it now. We dont have the pulling, the gagging or nothing! Dont worry Jo she`ll get there in the end and im sure you`ll crack this soon!

edited - even now in class when there is another lab usually to "play" with she`ll go mental especially dogs who are in DH squadron who she sees regularly who are also younger than her. We do a smart turn even if the teacher is talking, we dont speak other than indi heel, turn and walk out, walk back place her in a sit and she calms down. Our current trainer also recommends this for dogs who get over excited. It can get frustrating, we where also taught if a dog is winding you up by pulling, barking, growling etc which our lovely labs can sometimes do to us. Then instead of getting angry and letting them know it you ignore them and bounce your knees up and down on the spot and eventually you`ll calm down and they will too. Ive done a lot of knee bouncing with indi especially as a pup when she went through her difficult phase. Even now i still occasionally have the odd knee bounce when we have our difficult days!

Thank you everyone. I did get in touch with Lizi who was brilliant, as usual. She's given me some very good tips that I've started working on already.

These include in the house stuff and on walks. As you say, Sarah, it'll take a lot of determination but I will get there. I'm glad that Lizi was realistic about me not being able to always walk them separately. I will be walking them together during the week and separately at weekends for training purposes, using different techniques, obviously Very Happy xx

Given that you're already up at the crack of dawn to walk the girls before work, I can't see how you could possibly fit 2 walks in Shocked Laughing Bonnie is such a sweetheart (and Porscha is *such* a bad role model Laughing ) that I'm sure she'll settle soon Very Happy
