500 plus grams a day? that its self might be reason enough for him to be not thriving. Thats a LOT of food. He's probably pooping out so much that he's not getting a reasonable amount of nutrition?? Just too much volume for him to cope with?
How much did he weigh at his biggest? How much is he now?

I agree with Fee, the 500g a day won't be helping.
By comparison mine get about 250g a day of orijen, so although it's higher protein it's generally tolerated as there's so much less for the gut to process.
(Mine are 31kg and 23kg but get the same)
Absolutely - sorry if I implied that you just give more food I definately didn't mean that - if I gave Sam 500g of say Burns the results would not be good - I wouldn't even try - but for some reason that particular RC Sensitivity does seem to be ok with larger amounts and it does have charts saying give that much must be something about the make up of it but its the vet range and yes it is very expensive.
I have found spliting the food into more smaller meals a day (but same quantity overall) helps as others have said and also finding out if they have allergies and then avoiding those things makes a real difference too.
As for people commenting - well I'm afraid they do and there's not much you can do about it but if they say anything to me I simply say "he's been really poorly but you're getting better now aren't you sweetie" and give Sam a fuss - end of, no one has a right to make us feel guilty we know we aren't doing that and I suppose the people who comment only care and to be fair there are people who don't take care of their dogs and when they meet us in the street or park they don't know that ours are actually adored. They really shouldn't comment and it used to upset me hugely but there's no point. It is even harder when your little girl is with you but I'd just brush it off with her tbh - "silly lady, Taylor eats lots and lots doesn't he" that kind of thing.
orijen has certainly helped coal get a better covering. Its basically a barf diet but in dried form.
If you want to have a read re protein levels etc there is a good document on the orijen site. Bit long winded but gives details of diff studies done.
I'd certainly try a grain free food for him if he were mine. Simpsons sensitive range that jac mentioned is fab and about thirty quid a bag.
