I've been trying to find 100% chicken treats for Bran that don't involve me going through the palaver of drying chicken breasts out and cutting them into tiny pieces myself Embarassed and found these: ProReward Treats

Has anyone used these treats before? How have they gone down?

I've ordered some from here: Crosskeys Books as they have the liver ones on offer (3 for 2) and offer free postage on orders over £15. I'm hoping to try the fish ones for Bran too, but they're out of stock at the moment, and possibly the venison when I can add more things to his diet. I'm just hoping they arrive before training on Thursday now!

Well these arrived nice and quickly, but I wouldn't bother buying them again and, in fact, will be lodging a complaint with the manufacturer Evil or Very Mad

These are sold specifically as training treats but the chicken treats are actually like jerky and are in large (2" ish) squares and are too tough to cut into smaller pieces. I bought them to save myself having to cut meat into tiny pieces anyway Rolling Eyes

The liver treats are air dried so are very lightweight in texture and are either in very large pieces (too large to use as training treats for Bran!) or in tiny crumbs! Out of 3 pots (each of which costs £4.75) I got less than one treat bags worth of usable treats Sad I did try to cut the larger treats down and they just crumble into dust!

So big fat "DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY" verdict on these Evil or Very Mad

I was really peed off though as I needed them for training today and they only arrived yesterday afternoon - not really giving me enough time to sort out replacements, so I've had to use the blimming things. To be fair, Bran loves the liver ones but he can love on as I'll be putting in my own time and labour and making my own for next week!

Glad I waited Wink

You really would expect them to be tiny.

Ive tried those treats before and although as you say the liver ones go down well they do crumble. I think you might struggle to find 100% chicken treats that arent like jerky though as by the very nature of chicken, once its dried commercially it its just going to be hard and chewy. Liver has a different structure and ends up more like foam so it then crumbles. Unless you add something else into a meat treat they will end up hard to break up or just not treat like.

Have you tried the fish4dogs super stars, they are very good and very hypoallergenic.

Can he tolerate tiny cubes of carrot or apple? Maple's highest value treat is apple lol.

Barker and Barker do a really good small, tablet shaped treat and they work out quite economical. The company is also really great, super fast delivery and very helpful with any questions etc.
The treats come in a liver or fish flavour and are made from well sourced, quality products. We tried the Pro Reward venison treats, but as you said, the pieces were either huge or too tiny to taste.... Rolling Eyes

Most fruits and vegetables are a no-no, sadly, and the Fish4Dogs fish treats have potato in them, which Bran is intolerant of Sad

Most of the Barker and Barker treats he can't have as they contain meat derivatives so I can't be sure if they have things that he'll react to. The arctic fish ones look good (and were recommended before!) but I think the price put me off of them at the time although after this palaver with the ProReward treats it might not be so bad.

I really think that I'm going to end up cooking, chopping and drying out chicken and liver for him myself but it would be helpful to have a commercially produced training treat that is suitable for him to hand in case I've not had the time to prepare anything Very Happy

What about Natures Menu chicken treats?

Not sure what else in in them but they are small and Barney who is intolerant of red meat is fine with these

Thanks Pam. Those are what I used to use as treats before this latest big flare-up but they also contain "meat and animal derivatives" which I can't feed him any more Sad

Complicated, isn't it? Wink
