Rumbled!

Big Angus went home last night, the rest of the team had a bath this morning in preparation for their big days, they're all staying with us tonight so that they've got their mum with them for fireworks night.

See you tomorrow![/img]

We were let down by one of the homes for Lorna's litter and we ended up having another of the pups in the house with us for an extra 6 weeks. We are not expert puppy handlers - I was 9 years old the last time there was a puppy in the house - and it was really, really hard work. We did as much socialisation and training as we could with them individually, but there was always a great temptation to treat them as one unit as it was very time consuming.

The other pup had been one of the quieter ones of the litter, very sweet and gentle, but became quite dominant over Ronnie which started to give us some concern. I wanted my other dogs to be Ronnie's role models and for them to gain the benefit of having a youngster in the house, so for us, there was never a temptation to keep an extra one. It was hard to let him go though as we had obviously become much more attached to him but from my very, very limited experience I don't think the fact we were the "breeders" eventually made any difference to the way the puppies interacted together and with their Mum.

I couldn't hand on heart recommend you don't do it, but I know we wouldn't have coped with two puppies, maybe that was because we usually adopt at the other end of the age spectrum though. Good luck with your decision, I don't envy you it.

Many thanks. I've come down from my "many, many dogs" daydream and we're going to offer up the pup - who is the pick of the litter - once we've finalised a couple of things here.

I think it is better to let the pup go now than for you to become attached and have problems later. Even if you didn't have problems yourself, what would you do if one of your buyers had to return a pup in a few months time - you'd end up with three from the same litter then and it would be much more difficult to rehome older pups.

I'm sure there will be a lovely home waiting for this pup, especially as pick of the litter.
