As we start to think about what gifts to buy our nearest and dearest our thoughts turn to those who still insist on buying puppies and kittens as Christmas presents, yes it still happens!
Many dogs will find themselves homeless as the old dogs and cats make way for the new puppy or kitten, it's happening already and rescue start to prepare themselves for these animals as well as the influx of the post Christmas animals, the one's that are dumped just after the new year.
You can make a difference by perhaps purchasing gifts or cards from these rescues, by using the links that donate money to the charities when you purchase from online shops or perhaps buying a 'Sponsor a Dog' package for someone.
Perhaps you have some old blankets and towels, dog food, wormers, flea treatments etc that you can pass onto your local rescues.
Could you volunteer to foster over Christmas maybe?
Together we can make a difference

Please also think that when you get presents that are maybe not quite what you want, or are exactly what you want but it means you have an old but in good condition version to get rid of - if your rescue has a charity shop they may be able to raise funds by selling it.
I have been making cards and little crafty bits for Many Tears, Friends of the Animals, Little Dog Rescue, Hope Rescue and have been buying all my xmas pressies from their On-Line auctions which are ongoing now and I bought some bits from the Oldies Club FB auction. So am now all sorted
Could you volunteer to foster over Christmas maybe?
Rescues are ALWAYS short of fosterers over christmas
maybe this is a good time to offer if you had thought about fostering and not taken it any further..............

Our Molly was bought as a Christmas present but by Easter she wasn't wanted any more. Luckily for her (and us) she found her way to labrador rescue but it could have been so different for her. I guess this Christmas won't be different from any other and the rescues will soon be overflowing as a result. Maybe if we all help in what ever small way we can it will all add up and make a difference.
Last year my local rescue center had a frozen pipe so were stuck without water for 6weeks. The pipe was an external pipe so nothing the water company could do till the pipe defrosted. We spent most of christmas doing washing for them and running back and forward with bottles of water for.
Keep an eye out for your local shelter that might be in need of help.
