I love watching their body language too. Max has always been very licky licky love me with other dogs, but he used to bowl in at 100 miles an hour and face the consequences. Last month or so he still runs up to say hi, sometimes at 100 miles an hour, but tends to crouch down submissive a little way away and wait for them to come up and sniff him. On the other hand, we saw a really sumissive lab the other day and straight away he was chasing her, rather than normally being chased by others - owner said she normally rolls onto her back as soon as she sees another dog. It's amazing how they start to pick it all up.
Someone on here (may have been Sarah - Basil?) recommended a good book on body language (Canine Body Language by Brenda Aloff) with pics and explanations.
