What else do I REALLY need please.
I reckon from reading The Book Of The Bitch she has approx 1 wk left
Am I panicing????? It feels a bit like when I was about to pop!!
I have no advice! I haven't been here for a while so didn't know you were expecting but I wish you and mum the very best of luck and a stress-free whelp xxx
Lots of paper towels (you can get the big rolls from a cleaning cash & carry).
I always have Nutridrops, but not everyone does.
What are you using for bedding after the whelping. I have lots, and lots, and lots of vetbed.
Clean the filter in your washing machine now because it will damn well get blocked in the middle of washing everything and you will end up emptying the water out a cup at a time .
Most of all put your feet up know while you still can .
Thanks Charlotte, she is our latest foster, came to us 2 weeks ago. We knew she was pregnant, but not when she was due!!
We have never had a pregnant bitch before!!( My DD decided it would be a good idea ) She, the bitch, was one of a rescue from an Irish PuppyFarm, brought here 2 weeks ago!! Trudy is a little gem, possibly Pointer/Springer X looks like first litter, first season, VERY young
Ha I'll tell that to the eight of my pups that are snuggled in and under there vetbed then. They squiggle under in and out quite easily, none have suffocated yet .
Shakes head don't know where the filter is - I've had to empty mine once already and the pups aren't a week old yet. I'd bet on having to clear it another four or five times!
Do you know in seven litters now I've never had to tie off a chord, nor use puppystim or anything similar.
Do you have a torch ? Good for checking what Mum is up to outside (poo or puppy?) and also saves having to keep putting the light on if you're going to sleep in the whelping room before and after they arrive.
Presumably as you have puppy milk you also have bottles but just thought I'd mention it - I also had Milton fluid on hand to clean them and an airtight box to store them in. Heidi recommended that I cut my nails short and have a nail brush and disinfectant scrub handy - really useful advice as the first puppy was breech and didn't want to come out so I had to "reach in" and help it out. Not as bad as it sounds and unlikely you'll need to do it, but good to be ready!!
One thing that made me panic was when Lorna was tired and she ripped two puppy cords too harshly and made them bleed alot. Not sure what I was supposed to do but I applied pressure with some cotton wool and all was well. Hopefully someone will correct this if it's the wrong thing to do just so that you're prepared.
Have a notebook and pen handy so you can write down what happens and when because if you're like me you'll forget - timings can be useful.
Am so excited for you, I was a nervous wreck too and honestly it's the best thing ever - it's going to be wonderful ! Don't forget fully charged camera of course.
