Sorry Di, I didn't answer that before. She is off the lead for quite a lot of the lesson some weeks, other weeks she is on the lead for most of the lesson.
When she is on lead, she is inclined to whinge and squeak. When off the lead, she is quieter, but can't resist the urge to run in after other dogs, or just to run about and be silly, or to go to retrieve the dummy when it is another dog's turn (not all the time, but probably happens at least once in each lesson, sometimes more). Then the others get more unsettled and there is likely to be other ones running about then she goes with them too.
He is trying to improve the steadiness, which can be good, but it means I am on edge most of the time and I suspect this makes her more nervous.
Thanks, Shirley

I really think that needs rethinking but hes your trainer. She is just being set up to fail time and time again being off lead. She is also clearly being shown till its now a rock solid habit that she CAN do whatever she wants. Whining or barking is a small price to pay, you could just keep her on the move when it starts... she must learn she CAN'T run in and do as she pleases. And secretly, honestly? Yes if I was in your class and he was allowing this happen, literally time and time again, by way of you being told to have her offlead whilst other dogs are working, I would be very hacked off. Not with YOU but in it being constantly allowed. In my humble opinion but maybe there is a method in his madness

Thanks Di, I'll have a quiet word with him before the lesson on Sunday and suggest she stays on lead for a few weeks, other than when she is working.
Thanks again for all the great advice.

As a trainer I hate saying anything against other methods, but this seems that if you can stop it simply by having her onlead for a while, it will make it less stressful for everyone, including, probably the trainer..
