can anyone help please?. whilst researching my dog's family tree, i bought a 5 generation pedigree from the kennel club website. however, when it arrived on the 5th generation there are many unknown registered sires and dams. i'm very confused.com, how did the kennel club know these dogs were in fact pedigree labradors? all dogs in 4th generation have been named. any input/advice would be much appreciated

They would have to be registered otherwise the 4th registration dogs wouldn't be registered either (both parents have to be KC registered for the progeny to be registered - the only exception to this is with overseas sires.

Are you actually saying that the pedigree says "Unknown" on parents from the 5th generation Shocked

Would you be able to post the pedigree? I can see if I can help - but it seems a bit 'off' in that case to sell you an incomplete 5 generation pedigree Confused

I'm very surprised!!!!!!

The KC's computerised database only goes back to the 1980's. Before that it was a paper based system. So what it amounts to is that they were prepared to take your money, but too damn lazy to put any effort into supplying you with a complete product! It's like buying a new car, finding it has no wheels and being told, "The whistle blew so we all went home!" I would be phoning the KC and asking for half my money back. After all, half a product only warrants half the money!

Regards, John

Sue can very likely complete your pedigree, or in the unlikely event if she cant then it's quite possible I can. But thats not the point. You have paid good money for half a product, and thats not acceptable. The KC have info going back to day one of the breed and if they are not prepared to supply the info they should not take the money. I'm sure trading standards would find it unacceptable.

Regards, John

As John said - just post the dogs whose parents are missing and hopefully one / both of us (or other members) will be able to fill the gaps for you.

What is more astonishing however is that the KC have sold you a pedigree like that Shocked

Sorry to hi-jack the thread - but my Monty's pedigree (supplied from the KC) has a gap on the 4th generation. As I recall both Sue and John were unable to help with tracing this several years ago. I don't understand how this can happen - surely the KC should be able to supply a full pedigree on a KC registered dog? Rolling Eyes

So if anybody can please help with info on the sire of Luke of Barmby - sire of Midnight Drifty Jake (whose dam was Shanshan Queen) -I would be very grateful.
