when I was a vet nurse we used to advise taking temps. NOW that I have done two litters I am saying DONT!
With Molly's first litter I took her temperature twice daily. She had the temperature drop a WEEK before she had the puppies. talk about red herring. I hardly slept for that week ....as being summertime she was panting alot anyway so I thought she was about to go into labour any moment, based on my supposed knowledge of the temperature dropping (and going back up again).
As Di says you will know, look out for signs of nesting, frantic scratching up of newspaper.
Molly had a "show" of mucus stringy stuff 24hrs before she went into labour.
Some bitches go off their food and some may have an upset tummy. Molly didnt have either of these symptoms.
Good luck - you know where to find us if you need anymore help and there certainly is a wealth of help on this forum!

Thanks Heidi, she got me and Steph in a bit of a tiz today coz she has started to collect toys and be possesive of them!!
As we have no idea when she was mated, it is going to be a supprise whenever she starts!!
Looking at her now toys all over the floor just like the others do, I guess she now feels 'at home' AWWW
Her belly is getting bigger, seemingly by the hour Whelping pen set up,sofa bed ready, just all the little bits to collect and we are are set to go!!
Has she produced any milk yet? Coco Started producing milk about 3 days before whelping. But I suppose it is different for all dogs! By bits do you mean vulva or nipples? Because Coco's nipples were quite big about 2 weeks before she whelped.

Mmm Boiling kettles may just bump up your electric bill! As far as i remember Millies bits swelled up a couple of days before, but unfortunately they dont all read the books that we do. Good luck.

Never forgetting Carly and Abbie
Keep Calm Carry on. the 'signs' are 'displayed' at such different periods before whelping don't hold a candle to any as an indicator. Just watch her and when she starts panting heavily and scratching up, she is 'coming'

Thanks folks, I did mean her vulva, her nipples are a bit bigger but not much. She is getting a bit saggy round the boob area and not a lot of movement so far this evening.
