Not even sure if the title is any use here!!!
Foster pup is approx 2wks from whelping (she might be quicker tho!) and my vet suggested taking her temp rectally a.m and p.m from end of next week and when it drops significantly she will whelp in approx 24 hrs.
Dont fancy using my family thermometer but have been unable to locate a digital rectal one. Any one done this and if so what did you use!!
TIA

Here you go, I have to admit I have not taken their temps to try and determine when they will whelp but used the method of several uncomfortable sleepless nights on the sofa, thinking is it or isnt it ? lol
You know my thoughts. I don't take temperatures, and bear in mind even when you know the mating dates there are still 3 - 4 days either side you are on red alert for. When you see her in first stage labour you will know, I promise, you won't need a themometre to tell you. I know some might think it might be so subtle they miss it but almost noone ever would.
Get it all ready a week before you think possible then just take each day as it comes.

I have not bothered with temp taking, did use a thermometer last time though when I thought Brooke was off colour on about day 4, so may be worth having one, or just get a new family one after in the event you need it?
I luckily have my own personal vet nurse to do icky jobs I dont fancy ( very handy for anal glands !! )

I never took Cocos temperature. But like Diana said it is very hard to miss the first stages of labour! I know people say it is hard to notice but it is not unless the dog actually does nothing. I noticed first on a saturday morning. Coco started digging at her bed. She was panting slightly and very restless. I knew then the pups were gonna appear in less than 24 hours. Nobody believed me. I stayed up all saturday night and the first pup appeared at 6am sunday morning.
