Hey!

We are off to the Lake District this weekend to a lovely dog friendly cottage. Just wondering if anyone know of any good dog friendlly activities that they could recommend that we do with Tiber. Also can you recommend any walks that cant be missed!? We are staying near Ullswater but have cars so will prob head down to Windermere for oneof the days!

Thanks for all your help!

TBH I wouldn't bother with Windermere - I find it a bit too touristy. My favourite place to take the boys is Derwentwater. There are lovely walks around the lake, we spend the whole day there and take the boys on the the boat as well. That's how I have spent my last two birthdays Very Happy

Windermere can be very busy, but do recommend the boat trips - dogs are allowed, my boys thought they were the bees knees looking out and getting fussed by everyone. Smile

You could take the steamer from Glenridding to Howtown and then walk back along the footpath following the Ullswater shoreline.

It's about 7 miles and takes about 3 to 4 hours depending on your fitness level though. Shocked

Where abouts are you?

We go to the Lakes every year and stay in a cottage in Hartsop where there are loads of great walks without having to use the car.

I hope the weather is being kind to you if not wrap up warm and dry. Very Happy

Cat Bells near Keswick is one of my favourite 'proper' hill walks in the Lakes, (although I expect it will be quite busy with half-term) - a good hill which most people (and dogs) can manage without too much difficulty and cracking views at the top.

At the other end of the scale, if you do go to Windermere, Orrest Head is an easy 15 min climb above the town from the station/Booths car park, but gives a great view over the lake to the hills beyond.

Have a fab time! Very Happy Very Happy

thanks guys

We are staying near Greystoke - not far from Penrith. Popped down to Windermere and did a small walk and got the boat - was bad weather. Not sure what our plans are for tomorrow but all your ideas sound fab!

Totally agree that Derwentwater is fab for families with dogs, lots to do.

The website I always consult before a visit is:
http://www.walkthefells.net

It's put together by David Hall who seems to be a modern day Wainright. He has hundreds of walks across all areas of the fells, and has a fantastic search facility where you can choose the area, The length and elevation of the walk.

The walk details have detailed maps, written directions and photographic directions!

Hope you have a fab holiday
