Great news for Simba and his family, shame about the muzzle but if it means he stays alive I`m sure the family won`t mind, neither would Simba if he could understand.
Lets hope the Irish judges are looking at this outcome too and follow it.
Yes, it's awful that Simba was taken in the first place and a huge shame he has to be muzzled and on-lead always, in public, but I'm sure given the alternative that his family must be delighted
Mary, a few dogs have been released back to their owners in Northern Ireland in recent months, deemed as type but allowed to return home due to the amendment. Deed Not Breed has posted photos etc. on its facebook page The amendment came into place at the end of July, according to DNB.
Ireland is different of course from the UK, as it doesn't ban any breeds, but has some breeds on a restricted dogs type list, which still enables them to be legally owned.
I know if i werehis family I would be happy to muzzle him (although not ideal - especially as he has not done anything wrong) if it meant that i had him back!
Hope he his a long and happy life with his family - hes a lucky boy to have them fighting for him x
Yes, legally he has to always be muzzled in public places now (including cars), or he could face a destruction order. There was a case in the past where an owner removed the muzzle because the dog was being sick and I believe (but would have to check to be 100% sure) that a destruction order was ordered
Sadly the restrictions also mean that he is never allowed off lead again in public, which means all exempted dogs are condemned to a life on a lead, outside of the home, unless their owner is lucky enough to own private and secure land, which of course most people don't.
He's also got the horrid exempted tattoo across his groin, but yes, compared to the alternative and other situations, he's actually one of the "lucky" ones.
I'm so very glad he is home safe, but to imagine a dog who has never hurt anyone, never being able to run free in a park and chase a ball, like ours can every day, is heartbreaking and unfair
