We have had problems in the past with Zens tail being damaged and it is now bald for about 1.5 inches and is very prone to further damage because of this esp. when travelling as he bashes it all the time on the cage
We found a product that I must admit I was really sceptical about but having tried it thinking , ' this is not going to work ' and I can say yes it works and is really easy to put on and it stays on too which is the difficult bit .
I just wanted to say thank you for the link Heather. So many people ask me about how to protect tail tip damage while its healing and this product looks ideal .
End of tail damage someone suggested a BMX foam bike handle grip.... and it worked
" It does seem so bizarre John. I see so many overweight working type spaniels with docked tails on harnesses dragging their owners around the park, thought they were only meant to be docked if going to working homes??...Really grates that our girl who we have put sooo much work into to get her ready for the shooting field may have to go through damaging her tail repeatedly before we can do anything. "
Possibly they were docked before the docking ban came into place only a short time ago. Before that any traditionaly docked breed could be docked rather than 'dogs who may take on a working role'.
Its tragic that working litters are not docked now. But hey, some will disagree, until they see the tail damage inflicted on such even gently worked (or on a walk!!!) working bred, docked, breeds.
Its a hard call as much damage needs to be inflicted before normal vets will consider amputation. I would SOOOOOOOO ask people who might work their dogs to buy from docked litters its not true for the traditionally docked breeds. But hope daisy finds her way through the maze and gets docked/amputated for her own good if she stays a beating girlie...
