That video was rather a mix of stuff Confused Confused

I wouldn't TEACH the stop whistle by doing this method. This is a way of TESTING they understand the stop whistle, without the visual reinforcers being given. ie. by sitting when you carry on walking, and operating only from the aural cue.

Thanks Laura! I see your point! I blame posting too early in the morning as I don't quite see what I was trying to say! Confused Rolling Eyes

Tucker is sitting to a peep and is very close to being consistent. He is sitting and then staying sometimes while I walk away and then return to him. He's not ready to sit while I keep walking without stopping myself yet. I see what you mean about that being a test rather than a teaching method.

I'm hopefully not doing too much wrong before we get to see you! (have posted deposit). I'm keeping it to short and simple bursts of heeling, sits, recalls, stays and a few 'keeping him keen' retrieves. He appreciates and enjoys the calmness of gundog obedience in a way Luna never has, looking forward to getting your input!

He came second in the musical sit game at the Bo-Peep gathering last Sunday!! He walked to heel with all the other dogs and exciting people around him too Cool

Di, There is what I consider to be a minority who train alone but need guidance. As your aware training normally follows a structured progress, more so if your taking a training class.

I think the majority those that do train on their own are usually more experienced and have the confidence press ahead knowing we have the ability to recognise when something is going a bit off course and take measures to correct it.

I would not normally suggest to anybody they break from the accepted norm unless they have trained a dog before and are aware of the pitfalls.

The accepted norm would be steadiness heel work recall etc. the tossing of a dummy in the circumstances I did during the video was simply reward and seeing what the dogs reaction and response was. Very Happy
