Please please can you spare a thought for my gorgeous boy?
I took him to the vets this morning to see his usual ortho vet about the hip that I thought was causing him problems. The receptionist had messed up and he wasn't in, but the other ortho vet was so we saw him.
Bran is really really sick
He doesn't think it's his hip, but his spine and he's actually not concerned about that at the moment.
Bran has dropped another 1.5kgs in weight and is now only just over 24kgs - not good for a dog of his size. The vet suspects that he either has a liver problem or, more likely, an auto immune disease that is causing his body to attack his own red blood cells. He said "if we've caught it early enough, we can save him"
I never even realised he was so poorly. I just thought he had a bad leg I never thought I'd live to see the day when hip dysplasia was the good option
They've kept him in and are running a full bio-chemistry and haemotology work up and testing urine and faecal samples and hope to have some results today. If they get no answers from that, they're going to put him through the CT scanner and then they can check his elbows, hips and spine at the same time. Otherwise, his ortho stuff will all wait until he recovers from whatever else is going on.
I just feel sick. I had such a horrible feeling about all this but just thought it was his leg
