Well, what can I say?
I was told when I got there not to worry because it was our first comp, we were entered with the slowest time out of everybody and wouldn't win anyway so it didn't matter if Coco played up. So I can say I am absolutely thrilled to have got 2nd on our first outing.
There were 6 teams in Division 4 (bottom division) and we had to race every other team to complete the tournament. The first team to win 3 legs won the race.
Race 1 - Coco played about a bit and wouldn't give the ball back a couple of times so I got seriously worried but after the first couple of times I started catching her ok. We lost this race
Race 2 - Right hand lane this time. In practice Coco tried to go down the other lane because that's where she got her ball from last time But racing for real she did good and we won the race. She was 4th dog so it didn't matter when she decided to run back down the lane for another go after the time had already stopped
Race 3 - Another good race and she behaved. We won.
Race 4 - We were winning 2-1 then did a really fast time and broke out (you are only allowed to be 0.5 of a second faster than your declared time or you lose the leg) but the ring party missed this fact and we were awarded the race. Our captain notified the head judge and we were called back in after the next race to re-run the decider (poor ball box people had to cart the box in again!) But we still won
Race 5 - We were 2-1 up but a fouled crossover from dog 3 lost us the 4th leg so we were 2-2 and the whole thing depended on Coco. I aimed for a tight crossover but hadn't realised how much dog 3 had slowed down and we fouled our crossover so Coco had to run again. The other team got it right so we lost 2-3 with a nail biting finish. I was gutted because it was all my fault.
However, one team won 5 races and there was a 3-way tie for 2nd including us as 3 teams had won 3 races. Our break-out time of 23.64 got us the 2nd place so I didn't feel so bad in the end and I was on cloud 9 for the rest of the day.
The only downside was that we had to wait until nearly 7pm for the presentations to finish before we could go home (over an hour's drive away).
So we were very tired and achey by the time we got home but very pleased with our first performance.

WTG Coco! sounds like you were brilliant!
its so hard trying to get the cross-overs right - i really struggle with that. We were at our 2nd competition in Ayr this weekend - was great fun but soooooooo noisy (was indoors). Boy do these Collie's know how to bark! I don't think Tiber had ever heard so much noise before!
Was good to see a few other gorgeous labbies doing flyball - and lovely to hear about you and Coco's success! Reckon she'll have her 'Flyball Dog' award after that? Will keep an eye out on the website for her! I'm hoping Tiber got his (if not this comp - then def the next one!) We are in the Saltire Stars - which team do you race for?

Well done - fantastic result!
Jed iisn't designed for speed so we begin fairly close to the start line so crossovers are ok as I wait until the previous dog is between the last 2 jumps - but I have trouble judging it with Bo who does start further back.
