I was going to join this forum, I have been a lurker for a loooooong time.
I have 3 black labs and we want to start agility with the middle one.

I have been quite gobsmacked recently, at some of the posts. I am shocked at how some members have treated others.

I post this now, as I was logging on, to look up some info and I saw a post about a dog being returned to it's original owner, after it had been rehomed. Now forgive me, if I have the wrong end of the stick but a few days ago, were people not shouting down a member for discussing how to help her dogs get on and claiming he/she was a disgusting member of society for considering selling her dog? Yet this dog, in the recent post, was rehomed to a man, with whom unfortunately it has not worked and lots of members have jumped to the original owners aid, claiming she has done the best by her dog. Why is it ok for one person to rehome a dog and not for another?

I am shocked at some members, from whom I have enjoyed reading posts from, that almost lynched the member the other day. It was interesting how many were from rescue backgrounds and they appear to think that elevated them to look down on others. It was kind how so many seemed to jump to defend the original poster, who seemed to just be asking for help. Many conclusions were jumped to on that post. As someone who hoped to join this community, as my agility began, I am not sure I want to end up in a place, where people appear to be thick with each other and create gangs. Even some mods seem to be at it, as one posts reads as it is shut - 'I will shut this post before it becomes personal', the reality was it had become personal pages back but only once the person had been berrated,, by those the mod appeared thick with was the link shut.

It is a sorry state, when place which was designed to help people, does not correct those whom do not stick to rules.

I no doubt imagine this post will be deleted in seconds by those who feel they have something to hide.

Needless to say I shall not join and I fear more members will leave unless the bullying and nastiness it dealt with without those main offenders ignored due to their status on the site.

HI and welcome to LF.

It is clear that it is me you are talking about here. With the greatest of respect, you know nothing of the history of this situation with George and the reasons why I chose to rehome him in the first place, but it was with his best interests at heart.

Whilst I feel you are more than welcome to post what you wish to, I would prefer it if I wasn't singled out!

That aside, why not stick around - your input I am sure would be appreciated.

Vicki

Oh, I don't you are right and I have no issue with you at all. Some dogs don't work in a house and sometimes rehoming can be the best option all round - if it is done well (and like you, it didn't work but you are having him back and I am sure something will come up for you). What I find sad it how some can be nasty to one member and nice to another. Rehoming happens, sometimes it has to, I had to rehome a dog once because my two fought like cat and dog but I would not have wanted nasty comments about it. People appear to have got more info about your rehoming case, why did they judge the other member so harshly? I doubt many knew the ins and outs of his/her case. I respect anyone who has had to come to that tough decision, I know how hard it can be. If someone needs help, why not help them, why shout them down and cast them to the sin bin? I mean you no stress, I used you as an example because you have been dealt with with compassion (deservedly) and the other member appeared not to have been.

Isles, with all due respect as you have not subscribed, you are not party to all the posts that are made here. There is a private coffee lounge than non members can not see. So you have only seen part of any conversations that have taken place.

So you may not be in possession of all the information pertinent! Best not to comment negatively when you are not fully aware of a situation.

Welcome to LF. If you do stay around a little longer, perhaps a larger picture will become clearer to you.

What a strange first post or is it really a 'first post'?

You are wasting your time vicki. That is what is called a 'flame' post and I suspect from someone who was a little narked earlier on.

Such is life. Very Happy

I think then perhaps Isles, you shouldn't become a member as you are bound and set to cause some trouble. What a very strange way to introduce yourself with essentially a personal attack?

Thank you.

Generally from my experience on the forum, I don't think people have any problem with dogs being rehomed as long as it is done with genuine reason and done properly. However, I don't think members like to feel as though they are being given only half a story and feeling as though they are having the wool pulled over their eyes. As in real life I guess, honesty is greatly appreciated. My comments aren't directed at anyone in particular, just generally how I have perceived things over the 4 years or so I have been a member.

Isles...

Please do not accuse me of being 'thick' with anyone, I like to think I am fair when dealing with posts, there are often times we have to sit on the fence.

As a MOD we are damned if we do and damned if we don't when closing threads, if you have an issue with my decision please take it up with admin rather than create a post that can cause more unrest on the forum.

As I'm new to the forum myself I have kept quiet. But having been a member of many other forums ... please show me one that doesn't have disagreements, "flaming" (if you can call it that), etc..

There are so many different people and personalities it is bound to happen. It is also often the case that when someone types something it can be misinterpreted or read in the wrong way. That is just life.

Either you get involved in the politics or you don't ... simple as that really (and not dissimilar from an office IMHO). There are a large number of posters on this forum, and as with any forum, if you don't have the regular posters (and a "supposed clique"), forums will die (I have seen this happen).

This is the largest lab forum I have come across and there is a wealth of information in the minds of many people on here. Whether your or anyone else make use of this, is entirely the decision of the person.

PS: This is not a personal attack on anyone, I am simply taking advantage of the post to point out that ... that's forum life for you Smile
