Well, I had Millie back in my room last night - and she didn't need the toilet at all. So I guess it doesn't actually really matter *why* she poos, the answer seems to be to keep her in my room, so that's what I'll have to do. Maybe I'll try leaving her downstairs every now and then to see what happens (She *really* wants to stay in the living room with Moss!).

However - my next question, then, is how on earth do I stop her from snoring so loudly??? Wink

Well at least you didn't have to throw his bed away Wink Laughing .

Sorry...sensible head back on.

How many nights did you try it for and have you ever tried it without the crate being there at all? I'm just wondering if the crate still being there is still stressing him, even though he isn't shut in it.

Have you ever thought of sleeping with him, either downstairs or having him in your bedroom, just so you can see what he's actually doing just before he poos. Maybe even a CCTV type set up, to record his overnight activities might reveal why he is pooing.

Sorry Jules, I never came back on line yesterday to reply. We have never removed his crate altogether and to be honest, I don't think it stresses him out. His breeder crate trained him from a pup and he seems to like it... goes in quite happily and voluntarily.

The pooing doesn't happen that often anymore. It's like once or twice a month at the most. Always formed and not due to an upset tummy. Happens mostly ovenight, but as I said before, it has happened randomly during the day eg. garden door was open and front door bell rang. I went to sign for a parcel and in that 1 minute max space of time he had pooped in his crate... having just come in from outside with the door still open!!

Ah...Sorry, I was getting mixed up. I thought you said it happened quite a lot. Sounds like he is just getting caught short occasionally, a bit like Pickle does, but in a confined space.

Although it sounds like a bit of a habit has formed if he is coming in to do it in the crate. It might be worth shutting his crate door during the daytime, so he can't get in to use it as a toilet.

To begin with it was quite often. I am hoping it will gradually become a thing of the past.
