When we got Harvey in July, Indy snapped at him quite a few times, and once either bit or scratched Harvey's face when he pinned him down. Harvey's fur still hasn't quite covered it yet. He had had enough of Harvey jumping all over him and mouthing him, and so he was giving Harvey a telling off. I have to admit, at the time it scared the hell out of me. I think Indy bit his ears a few times too, not hard, but I found dog saliva on them a few times after Indy had growled and then snapped. It was made even more alarming because of Harvey howling like he was being savaged by a pack of wolves on each occasion. I wasn't used to hearing such sounds!
I'd had multiple dogs before and they'd just slotted together with no teething issues. I think Harvey is a very 'in your face' type of dog and Indy wasn't used to that, before he was always the young one annoying the others! Now though, things are usually harmonious. Indy still growls sometimes but these days that's enough of a warning to Harv to back off and so there haven't been anymore bites as far as I know. I really underestimated how long it would take for Indy to get used to a new arrival, but it's all quite normal from what I've read on here.
Thank you so so much for the reassurances! Stella is coming home at the weekend!
We envisage some tough times ahead, but are gonna try and take it in our stride. Prepare yourselves for some anxious posts, LFers!!!
Well I would second what Jules and Care says completely. Totally normail in my house with multiple dogs. Every pup knows within an hour or two Dream is the boss and not to be messed with.... all of my pups get quiet time and used to a crate.
Good luck and I am pleased you are going for it. It might be hard work to start with but 6 months on and it will all be bliss!! Dont quote me on that though!!
Thanks again to you all for the advice and reassurance. Since making the decision to have her, I suddenly feel much more relaxed and excited about Stella joining us .
Thank you, thank you, thank you xxxxx
