Received a sad message from a client today whose 2 whippet boys I have walked for the last 18mths. Blue took off after a deer, went across a road and was hit by a car. He died instantly. He was such a happy boy and so full of life, but did like to chase. Sadly it really brings home how a good recall is paramount... Poor lad.
I was really sad to hear this Trina and send Blue's owners my every sympathy. With prey drive dogs there for the grace of god go all of us in the blink of an eye.

My thoughts too Di, as good as my girls can be, you always know there could be that one time.....
Blue sadly was hugely prey driven and would often be missing for 20-30mins... Its so difficult, with a dog that loves to run free like he did, it seemed almost wrong to keep him on lead and some days he would be good and not go far.. and others.....
Awww it's so sad for their owners when they meet their end like that. I guess for Blue though, he died doing something he loved most of all.
I love Whippets and all sight hounds, but any dogs with those sort of strong hunting/chasing instincts and Recall is always going to be hit and miss....and it really isn't fair for them to live life On Lead.
