Chocolate to yellow? BAD MOVE!!! Big Bad Bethany was a chocolate dam put to a yellow dog, and she was a hooligan all her life! She is the light one of these two.

Dudleys are yellow dogs with chocolate eye and skin pigmentation, so they have pinky brown noses, eye rims and lips and paler (greenish usually) eyes. There is nothing wrong with them and many people find this look very attractive, however the pale pigmentation is a fault in the showring, hence a lot of show breeders try to avoid this colour combination mating.

The point is Jules, providing you know what colours you are combing, and ensure that both parents don't carry chocolate and yellow - pigmentation shouldn't be an issue.

I've even been in touch with the Vetgen geneticist about this who confirmed what I suspected - as Bronte carries yellow and I am seriously considering mating her so that we get black and yellow pups - providing the dog I mate her to doesn't carry chocolate, then we shouldn't have any issues with pigmentation in any yellow pups.

Some people also don't realise you can get Dudleys from two black parents if they both happen to carry yellow and chocolate. Wink
