We had this when we first let him have the run of the downstairs at night so I put him back in his original room (under the stairs) and he was ok but since then we have got Jenson and he is under the stairs now Very Happy they wouldn't fit together it's just nice and cosy for 1 I think it's because he has so much space but don't fancy a crate as he has never used one before.

Thanks I will try the radio again I think Rolling Eyes

Sarah

It sounds like it's the space that's the problem, he hasn't got a cosy safe den to sleep in.

Have you tried swopping them over? Maybe jenson isn't bothered about his room?

He might well adapt to a crate if you make it cosy, give him a treat when you put him in it etc.

I introduced my Collie to a crate when he was 6-7. He is a sensitive soul and we'd already made him a "den" in a cosy corner, but when I bought a crate, I put it in his den area and covered the top over.

I haven't generally closed him in very much, but he did start going through a phase recently of barking a fair bit during the night. I did try playing music as he has great hearing and I wondered if he could hear foxes/cats etc outside but that didn't help.

I started putting him in his crate at night with a treat and he is now quiet all night. He does a little excited bark in the morning as he hears me coming down the stairs Smile If he didn't seem happy with the arrangement, I would of course rethink, but judging by the silence it seems to be working well for him - he is more than able to let me know if he's not happy about something Laughing

I'm not a big crate user. I've only really used them infrequently in the past and I gave up with Minnie's on the first night as she hated it and our other dogs have always chosen to sleep on the sofa/armchairs/dog bed, but for our Collie, it works.
