Does anyone know anywhere within a couple of hours drive from the South Coast that would rent out a cottage or somewhere (dogs welcome of course) over Xmas BUT not for the whole week?

I want to get away but don't have loads of time off at Xmas and everywhere I've found only books for the whole Xmas week.

It'd just be me and the pooches as Richard would be working so I don't want to pay a huge amount of money for just a few days Very Happy

The problem is that its just about the most exspensive time to go away! So owners want to rent out the whole week and not a portion of it. So I imagine it would be quite tricky.

We searched last year for similar and resigned ourselves to having to take a week.

We went to Scotchcoulthard, but that is going to be way to far for you from the south. It was idylic though Smile

Whilst I would think most cottage owners are hoping to let their property for a week, Christmas can sometimes be a difficult week to fill, so it may be that if you wait until the last minute a cottage owner may accept a short break booking rather than no booking at all.

If you would be interested in South Cornwall I could pm you a link to an agency that will offer certain properties for short breaks if weeks cannot be booked.

Really hope it works out for you Jo.

Hello, don't know if you've found anywhere yet - if not this one's worth a phone call.

http://www.hedgeendhideaways.com/badgers_glory.php

Hubbie and I (and the two dogs) stayed there in March. It's on the Devon / Dorset border near to Seaton (between Lyme Regis and Sidmouth). Very dog friendly - the property owners live opposite and used to own bearded collies and are very welcoming to guests with dogs. In fact my two virtually had the run of their house!! Smile They're nice people and very welcoming to humans too! There's a large enclosed field that the dogs can have the run of and the view over the valley is gorgeous. Bit out of the way, but there's a supermarket in Seaton 5 minutes drive away. I see it's available through December but don't know if they would do a short break. Worth a try if the area works for you.

Sue x
