I`ve been advised to bathe my Lab twice a week due to my partners asthma, any suggestions of shampoo or conditioner I should use?

My friend baths her dog in Petal Clease for much the same reason. Although she doesn't do it twice a week....more like twice a month.

I presume the bathing is less about fragrance and more about removing dander, surely? Confused

I would think if it's going to be that frequent then the gentler and weaker the shampoo the better (for the dogs coat).

If you edit you title to mention asthma you'll probably get lots of advice from those with family members who suffer Smile

Is there any other way around it? Shouldn't really bathe any dog that often as it strips the oils. Maybe try every day brushings with a Furminator outside, make sure his paws are wiped before going into the house as they can contain lots of lovely allergens in them.

And a good hoovering round the house and across the furniture every day with a vaccuum that has a rotating brush to get right deep into the fibres. I've got a Vax Centrix 2 Pet which is the cheaper alternative to the Dyson Animal. It's fab.

Wash the carpets and floors regularly. Anything to minimise any mucky stuff getting into the house.

However, if it really is a case of washing the dog twice a week, try "Virbac Episoothe" - it's for dogs with itchy skin but it's soap-free and has stuff in it which replaces the dog's own oils.

Oh yes A good vacuum is a must too (for non asthma sufferers too!)

The dyson animal has a HEPA filter which is meant to help.

I think i've read that sufferers can 'acclimatize' gradually over time too - so don't be too concerned if your partner is really bad initially.

Is this a new lab / puppy? Puppys have a pup coat that doesn't really have an undercoat - this changes around about the 6month mark. So initially bathing, brushing probably won't be needed as shedding is minimal.
