Some things are brand new, and develop, not in a planned way but just simply over time. When Shadybug started the Northern LF gundog training days it was a huge step forward to me, because I know how desperately the pet/novice gundog world is crying out for opportunities for very beginner/novice handlers. I have been running CLUB beginner days for about 6 or 7 years on and off and train the beginner class for a couple of gundog clubs and know the brick walls people hit.
Shady said to me why not start some down south many moons ago when I said how great they were, so I did. The LF southern training days. They have been mostly well supported with a couple of holiday time exceptions.
LF has never seen such days before, and my plea was for others around the country to start them too, but noone else seems to have.
From here things have morphed with demand for similar total beginner training coming from all angles, (to me AND others) but almost all people initally linked to LF. Therefore days have got mentioned here, interest has been assessed here. Patently by the amount of time I spend in the Bahamas you can tell the fortune to be made in running them, but unease had spread in my mind as regular posters have commented less and less in the FT and Hunting section.
There is, patently, a feeling that this is unfair. I do not disagree now it has come to my attention very clearly today. But its not intentional. its not a game to make a fortune when you work a proper job too. Its just one to run you into the ground for nothing much more than a tank of petrol and a couple of bags of dog food a couple of times a month.
BUT the whole unease has made me think. Would LF benefit from a 'training days' section. Members only maybe? Where ALL gundog trainers of any standard could post their training days or day? there ARE no 'qualifications' in our game so the idea of them having to be 'certified' or something is just not relevent so it would be very open ended. Trainees would vote with their feet. If folks choose NOT to then, surely its only their potential loss?
Whilst some will inevitably roll their eyes at this suggestion, Ithink the members would be ecstatic to see some more faces in the South. In the West Country. Midlands. Scotland.
I have put it to the Mods, but do members see a benefit to this as a new section?

I have to say from a personal point of view as a Novice (very) and petowner I have really benefited from these morning sessions first with lovely Sherry Blypark who gave me the confidence to give it a go and the basics and then with Di on her first Essex training day.
There would have been absolutely no way i would have had the confidence to phone a trainer, or have the first clue about Gundoggery stuff.
Now, we are planing to get a Pup in a few years and get serious with the training from the very beginning, this would NEVER have happened without these training days.
Some of you Gun Dog folk are might scary people to us pet owners

So what do you reckon on a Training Days section for ALL gundog trainers....scarey and otherwise?? I know the rules have patently been pulled this way and that last few months, and I am aware of that now, so what about it... and I promise till SEVERAL others post theirs I won't breathe a WORD on anything of mine!!

Great idea. Any chance of having a tidy up of some of the old get together sections and merging them as there are quite a few different sections at the mo and it can be difficult to know where to look sometimes, a few seem redundant.
I vote for ... It would need a disclaimer to say that LF hAs not assessed these days and is not responsible for the level of training or people cancelling etc.
I personally have found all trainers bar 1 to be helpful and keen to share their knowledge , as Di says, you vote with your feet

I've put my name down for the Hampshire training day. Like Natalie, it's something I'd have been too scared to do with a trainer. I'm a pet owner, but the training day appeals to me because I want Indy to have a 'hobby' and I think it's something he'd love even if we're not that great at it! He comes alive when I take him to the river and take a ball for him to fetch. Plus it's a way of meeting new people.
I have no idea how seriously I might take it in the future, but everyone has to start somewhere. I like the fact that this training day doesn't sound intimidating for complete beginners like me.
PLEAAAASE read this thread agrieved and alienated people of lurkdom and give it some thought about supporting/commenting/saying if its what you would prefer/a better system or even the 'same old s*ite bagged up a different way? All views welcome!
