The black bitch I am planning to keep from my current litter has a very small stripe of white hair on her chest. It seems to get smaller as she grows funnily enough! The hairs are longer than the rest of her coat, and quite whispy. It doesn't bother me at. I like it. Although my friend who is a gamekeeper and is also having a black bitch from my litter said he wouldn't want a lab with this marking.
My Q is, (might be a silly one) I would intend to breed from her in the future (subject to health testing of course), would this marking be a concern to anyone else in terms of breeding? Would this be an undesirable trait? She is working bred, not showing lines.
Asha had a black boy in her first litter of 12 with the same marking.
Its fine! In most dogs it gets smaller and smaller. Mia's white stripe was really noticeable in her litter. Now at 17 months you have to dig to even see it. No stud dog owner is going to care or ask to check Promise. Chances are if you kept another WITHOUT the stripe, it might have cropped up in her litter anyway seen as her sister has one so its obviously 'lurking'.
Its nothing to worry about whatsoever.

I would choose that one just for the white bit!!!!
I love it lol!!
I had a dream once I kept a choccie girl with a BIG white flash, Stori was due just after this dream and I said if a girl has a while flash its mine....guess what, a boy had a white flash, so I couldnt keep it, but he was my favourite puppy in the litter!!
Bet you wont see it in a few months time!
Look forward to meeting who you keep! We still havent decided, well I think we are nearly there
I know nothing about the breeding side of it but I own a yellow dog with a black spot on his chest. I know that is very uncommon and technically not correct but it is cute. We didn't choose him from his litter, he was the last left but I think his spot would have drawn my attention if I'd had the choice.
Funny isn't it - I would never buy a lab with white on, a lot of the reds have white on, I read somewhere almost 50% now as the gene pool for the dark colours is quite small (although this could be tosh! ). It took quite a white to find Fern. If you like it, go for it, like Maddie says it is not a fault but it is not for me. There is a certain working line which carries more white chest on black working labs isn't there? Is it part of Drakeshead? I am sure JohnW willl know.
The first third of Scrumps's fur from the root on her back is white. You wouldn't know it to look at her but if you peer under the coat then it's as though the first third of each hair has been dipped in brilliant white. She's also got a tiny white patch on her front right paw and a few white hairs to the left of her right eye.
She's got a lot of Drakeshead in her pedigree but so have masses of working labs these days.

When I first saw the photos of Digger, I thought he had some oil on him but he is gorgeous and that special mark would have attracted me as well
