We've had such a tiring, fun and exciting weekend!
Tucker knew exactly what was going on when everything was loaded into the car this time and had a whale of a time watching the agility, cleaning lots of willing faces and he showed absolutely no problem with going over the veteran height a'frame that got in his way while we were posing for photos! Next year Tucker!
Saturday.
Intro Jumping Qualifier - finished 6th so we qualified to run in the Finals on Monday! Was really pleased to go clear as the first run of the weekend is often an E for us not a rosette!
Primary Agility Qualifier - we had already qualified due to our league position but thought we'd run it anyway! Finished 7th with another rosette
Introductory Steeplechase - Luna had run low on energy at this point so finished well down the places on what was a fast course - Clear though!
Then the fun started!
We had qualified to run in the Cleverdogs Starters Final with a really quick time back in April. This time she'd have to complete a short agility course and then flyball run with another dog doing the same alongside! Eeeek!
She LOVED the whole experience and finished 3rd! It was a knock-out competition so you had to win the best of 3 runs until reaching the final meaning Luna did the course about 8times! Fantastic fun! And she had a well deserved rest for the rest of the day!
Sunday.
I decided to give Loon a rest in the morning knowing she had the Gundog Knockout Final and Primary Agility Final and Trios Final to run later on in the day! I was ring managing but ran to fetch her for a go in the Primary Agility class as I liked the judge's course! BUT my hair wasn't tied up so I tied it up while she ran the dog-walk! Then I forgot the course so we got E'd and headed for the exit I think I would have been better leaving Luna to snuggle up with Tucker!!!!
So the Primary Agility Final came next! With crowd watching it is rather nerve-racking!
Unfortunately, I pulled Luna down the side of a jump rather than over it by moving too quickly and then she bizarrely popped out the weaves before the end so we got 10faults and then due to the time taken to correct all the errors we ended up slightly over time too! Placing us 12th out of the 20finalists! Better than the E we got in last years final!
THEN the Trios Final came along. A Trio consists of an Intro, Primary and Novice Jumping dog. We had tried to make it a complete lab trio but struggled to find a Medium Primary Lab so allowed a collie in! We were the last Medium Trio to run and no-one had gone clear yet. Pressure!!! The collie went first and went quick and clear. The Novice lab boy went next ... quick and clear! We were last... pressure on... we went fast over 1, 2, 3... and then I LOST jump 4!!!! Luna headed for the tunnel, I found jump 4... called her... she came.... and we went quick and clear!!!!! OMG it was a SCARY moment and there was a crowd watching doing oooohs and aaaaahs!!! Our Trio won the Medium Trio Final getting a wonderful rosette and trophy each!
So wondering if Luna had any juice left in the tank at all we headed over to the Gundog Knockout Final which was run in the same way as the Cleverdogs we'd finished 3rd in the day before BUT they had to retrieve a toy instead of collect a tennis ball from in front of the flyball box. About 8 runs later and Luna was crowned 3rd place winner again! Winning her 2nd trophy of the day!
Monday.
Primary Agility - a lovely course but we got a refusal on an early jump, I think because she sensed I was going to run behind her once she'd jumped it! We finished down in 20th place with 5f.
Introductory Jumping - was a fast course which she ran well and clear but finished down in 22nd.
Then she had a good long rest while I ring managed for the rest of the morning until the last run of the weekend - Introductory Jumping Final!
This was a lovely course with 5 jumps and long jump to a tunnel in a diagonal line across the ring to start and a tunnel/jump/tunnel/jump straight run home at the end. I decided not to recall Luna over the 6 jumps! I raced her right from the start like I'd had to in the Trios as she seemed to go faster when I did! She ran brilliantly although unfortunately I forgot to tell her to jump a jump before entering the weaves so we lost a few precious seconds unnecessarily . She ran clear and gained a 10th place rosette out of the 20 finalists.
So, so proud! Tucker loved helping Luna collect her rosettes at the presentation ceremony!
So here are the Summer 2011 achievements!
We've finished
10th in the Primary Medium Dog of the Year League
10th in the Gundog League
11th in the Primary Agility League
24th in the Introductory Jumping League
Greatly looking forward to the Indoor Winter Season now and soooo looking forward to doing some training with the eager, enthusiastic Tucker!
