Harry is a totaly dustbin where fruit and veg is concerned. BUT is there any that he cant have, i know raises are one they have to keep away from, but what else?? So far hes tucked into Carrots (raw) and lots of them as Megan (my daughter) doesnt leave him out when shes giving the rabbits some haha, and any other fruit/veg thats being eaten but he doesnt like banana Laughing

We were given a list of stuff at puppy class - amongst the forbidden list - grapes, raw potato, raw onion - the guys who bred George gave their grown ups raw apples. Not sure about other veg.

Hi, there is this thread on the General Info board:

http://www.labradorforums.co.uk/ftopict-27167.html

Gi ves a list of food to avoid. Our two like carrot but I don't think they can digest it as it comes out the other end intact Shocked But at least they feel like they're eating something Razz

Carrots and other fruit/veg are best either minced or blended as they are harder to digest whole, that said having them whole won`t do Harry any harm.

CJ loves bananas, can`t remember the last time I had a whole one to myself Laughing , with apples, remover the core/pips as pips contain cyanide, no doubt it`d take a lot of them to do any harm but better safe than sorry.

Lottie's favourite thing! All fruit and veg makes her drool much more than meat! I never give her grapes, onions or potato but she has tried literally everything else, even beetroot and kiwi Shocked

Last week I walked 4 labs and they stood for ages munching on bilberries off the bushes like a herd or cows eating grass. Oh and they also eat blackberries off the bush.

Apple pips are only dangerous if they are split which then releases a very small amount of cyanide but a hug amount would have to be eaten to cause any ill effects. Dogs would swallow a pip whole so not a problem. However, if you are pulping them in a machine just to be on the safe side I always cut the core out.

Tomatoes are also fine, it's just the leaves that are dangerous. Potato is also fine but make sure they are cooked. A dog would have to eat about 50 cloves of garlic a day to have a detrimental affect on it. A clove of garlic a day is good for them.

However, to get the most out of fruit, veg and nuts they need to be pulped to aid digestion otherwise they just come out the other end looking the same way they went in. Rolling Eyes
