Any of you who have followed Cadbury's story will know he has not been the easiest dog to train!
I have longed to join the agility display team with him since we began the sport, but I knew he wasn't ready. He would run off to other dogs and people, he would drift off mid-course and mess around. Sometimes he would just do circuits of the field while I stood in the middle trying to get him back.
We have worked hard to get beyond all that. Even so it was an immense surprise when my trainer approached me on Friday and asked if Cadbury would like to join the agility team when the enrolments are opened in September! I was stunned and so excited. I trust my trainer's opinion and if she thinks we are ready then we must have really improved!
That being said Cadbury has really come on in the last six months - ironically around the same amount of time Merlin has been home. He will follow me around the course even when other dogs are nearby, he will even run passed them. He obeys my instructions and while he still likes to nose-but jumps he considers too high, most of the time he is doing really well.
So that is our bit of news and I couldn't be more pleased!:biggrin2: Though I am a bit nervous about our first training session with the team!
WTG Cadbury, I don`t imagine your trainer would have asked you and Cads to join the team if she didn`t think he was ready, as with most team things the aim is to win and having a dog who plays the fool isn`t ideal as you know, he must have really come on in the past few months
It could well be Merlin that has given him the "kick up the rear" he needed, he`s seen merlin doing things with you and doing very well at it, especially for one so young, maybe he`s thought its time he grew up and proved he can do the same things
And of course all the hard work you`ve put in with Cads since you`ve had him, he`s given you a hard time sometimes but you`ve never given up on him, now you are reaping the well deserved rewards
Looking forward to hearing how things go with training and Cads first competition
Thank you all! I've been desperate to come on here and tell you, but then my subscription didn't work! I am so pleased it is now sorted.

I actually think that is the key! Cadbury has really shaped up since Merlin arrived, I think he recognised he had a bit of competition.
I still think competitions are a looong way off. The team is purely for fun but is very professional and has a good reputation at the events it goes to. The team has been in the local papers two times this year already.
I can't wait to start, just mustn't get too stressed or nervous or Cadbury will know!
