Hi
I have found a website that sells Natural products to control fleas, ticks and worms.
Verm X liquid that you put on food which is supposed to kill internal parasites and Billy No Mates which also you put in food and controls fleas and ticks.
Has anyone used them and are they effective? Would so love to use something that is not chemical. But am reluctant to go ahead and maybe waste money!! Would love to hear from anyone with experience?
Many thanks
I'm never sure if these things actually work so not the best person to ask I'm sure the others who know all about this stuff will be along shortly with good advice!
verm x waste money we used on chickens then found it didnt work
,another, think it called diatom, we use that in our cats food, and not had a problem, been told and read can be used on dogs. it contains a garlic and the fleas etc dont like the taste of garlic in blood
I have used Billy No Mates for a few years now - closest thing to fleas on any of my lot was when we had a foster dog recently who brought a load in with him - absolutely crawling!!! ........ (did not see any on any of the others but have to admit I did give them an anti flea tablet on that occasion just to be on the safe side as 2 of them sleep on my bed)....
Big BillyNoMates fan here, it has kept my lot flea and mostly tick free. I have found a couple of ticks in as many years but they've been removed with tick tool so no real issue. I tend to give the dogs a checkover daily as their regular playgrounds are a hotbed of ticks, one dog is a tick magnet too. With chemical deterents, despite keeping her out of water for a couple days after application, ticks would still find her and ignore the other two dogs.
I'm afraid I have no knowledge of the wormer, still using chemical wormer on the dogs.
Diatom is mainly used for chickens and it is recommended for putting in their houses and dust baths so they can regularly bath in it. You can also lightly dust them with it. I don't think I would use it on my dog. I don't think chickens and dogs carry the same worms, do they?
Hi I've never used chemical flea treatments always used garlic tablets from dorwest herbs, garlic powder (not salt) if I run out, dogs have never had fleas or ticks evidently they dont like the taste of the garlic in the bloodstream.
I think I will definitely give Billy no mates a go, although the garlic does also sound good, I did do some research about garlic a while back and it seemingly has a mixed result. I suppose with all herbal/natural products it works for some dogs and not others, much like us!
In answer to Barneysma I think you put 1 scoop a day on their food from Easter onwards for 6 months, I think the scoop also depends on how big the dog is?
I think it is def worth a go as would rather not be giving too many chemicals if I can help it!
Thanks everyone for your input
Just also been reading up on Diatom for worming, sounds really interesting apparently farmers have been using it on livestock for years. Humans can use it too as a mineral supplement! Might just give that a go too! There was a warning not to buy it on ebay as the cheaper Diatom has added clay which makes it less pure and effective.

I used to carefully measure out the amount for each dog (1.5 for Jed, 1 each Bo and China, 1/2 each for the littles) but now I just put 4 heaped scoops in the breakfast mince when I mix it with water, then dole out the different amounts of meat - works just as well for them. I start round about Easter until the last tub in Autumn has run out.
