Hi everybody
Our names are Steve & Jayne
We have a 18 week old chocolate lab called Aggie.
The other day Aggie was playing with another dog and she seemed to twist sharply and yelp.
She initially just went a little quiet and off her food.
The vet thought it maybe something she ate and gave a jab for pain and some stuff to hydrate also firm up her poo.
Since then she has got worse with her walking.
Her front legs appear as though she is drunk.
She can bare her weight and get about but as for control she it a little any how.
The vet has done blood tests that are normal and given a anti inflammatory & antibiotic injection and asked us to come back in a few days.
I would like any thoughts and opinions that any members have so we can make sure our little girl is up and running again soon
My thoughts are, her going quiet and walking the way you describe sounds like she is in pain.
Not sure if blood test would show up if she has a fracture, or a ligament problem, so I think I would be back at the vets or getting a second opinion, did they suggest she have xray at the time.
I would also have expected them to advise rest, as walking could make things worse if there is damage. Hope it is nothing serious, and Aggie is back to her normal self soon.

edited - also am wondering if she could have slipped a disc in her back which may affect the way she is on her front legs
I would be going back to the vet re x-rays or a scan. It sounds as if there could possibly be a trapped nerve causing her pain and also the problems she's having with her front legs.
I`ll flag this up in or staff area for our member who`s very good on dog ailments, hopefully he`ll be able to advise you, his name is JohnW, so you know when he posts
usually going off food would indicate she is feeling some pain it could be a bad twist or sprain I'd ask for some x-rays just to make sure it's nothing serious especially with her being so young
Whereabouts are you in Notts? Buckley House Vets and their East Midlands Referrals pratice - both the same people are both general vets and specialists and are fab, a few of us on LF use them for general and joint problems, they've got all the equipment inc mri scanners if needed so it may well be worth going for a second opinion if she's not getting better.
I would try to keep her quiet (well for a pup) to give any muscles/ joints a chance to recover (no stairs or jumping up/down onto anything).
What are you feeding? How long has she been with you? Are you using the same as the breeder? Same quantity? How are you giving it - split into 3/4 small meals maybe with a dash of hot water to soften? How are her poos now? Was it prokolin she was given? Are you feeding her kibble or did the Vet advise something else e.g. plain homecooked fish and potato or chicken and rice? Is she drinking - that is really really important as little ones can dehydrate quickly in this weather and when they have bad tums. Sometimes a little honey in the water enourages them to drink.
The blood tests may show something, did the Vet also take urine and stool samples?
There are some experts in health issues on LF who I'm sure will be able to help further, I will flag your message to them in case they haven't seen it yet.

Thanks for all your reply's, the answer to most of your questions is "no they didn't suggest an xray or a scan" i think this was mainly because when Aggie is touched and examined she doesn't repsond as if she was in pain except on the very odd occasion and then she does let out a little yelp, this is mainly if she is held or picked up but not every time.
The Vets opinion seemed to be that she may have something neurological or hereditary, may be something to do with the brain! he is basing this on the fact that she doesn't always respond appropriately to a reflection action with the front paws to correct their position but i don't think that something like this would have started so suddenly, she wouldn't go from a normal bounding about big soft puppy to one who is afraid to move and walking and standing as if she is drunk. it is so worrying and heart wrenching to watch and see, cause she wants to get up and run and chase my mums dog but she seems to be afraid of moving, but then again i would be if i wasn't sure if it was going to hurt or not or my legs were going to give way.
