The first ingredient and therefore the main ingredient in Royal Canin is maize. The second is Maize flour. Not the greatest ingredient to have as the largest for a carnivore.
Its not to say that a dog won't do well on it, just personally not what I would choose with all the alternatives that are available

I have a small lab who gets 200g per day of Burns Canine Alert (vat free for working dogs, but aimed at assistance dogs so not so high in protein). A sack costs £37 and lasts 10 weeks. Coco does a lot better on the brown rice in Burns than the white rice in other dog foods. Skinners is the only other one I've tried and it made for loose and plentiful poos. You can order direct from Burns via the internet and they usually deliver the next working day or most independent pet shops can get it for you these days, though they might not have it on their shelves.
Because I've always been happy with Burns I have never really looked elsewhere and Wainrights or JWB would probably work out more expensive anyway.
At the end of the day you have to feed what suits your dog. Try to go for something with no artificial colours or flavourings. Wheat and maize are often linked with allergies so it is probably best to avoid those too. If your dog itches a lot, has loose poo or a lot of flatulence you may need to rethink your choice of food.
As Pam said, some dogs can have a grain/wheat intolerance. My black lab has wheat allergies so I feed both of them on a grain-free food. At the moment they're on White's Original, but once this bag's finished I'll be moving them onto Skinner's Salmon & Rice or Vitalin Sensitive (budget reasons only!).
I did try Orijen as a grain-free food at one point but it didn't suit either of mine - Laika got anal gland problems for the first time in her life, and Delphi looked like a walking skeleton!
Wouldn't really advise Royal Canin either, for the reasons Fee has already mentioned (for a food that's mainly grain it's horrifyingly expensive), and the fact that when we had Laika on it as a puppy we had to FORCE her to eat - she would never finish a single meal!!
I think we might try skinners to start with if she does end up coming to us...can you buy smaller bags? i dont want to buy 15Kg if she doesnt like it? Wainwrights do smaller bags and my local PAH stock the whole range so i might just end up going with them for convienece
I would find out what she was on and mix that to start with
