Not sure what undetermined MRD means maybe JohnW will clarify for me
MRD is a strange condition, similar in it's behaviour to Collie Eye Anomaly in that it can appear to disappear as the dog gets older. Back in the days when MRD first went onto the schedule A list for Goldens it was stated that the way forward was litter screening as for CEA in the collie breeds where only dogs screened before about 12 weeks old can be declared clear and anything tested after that date listed as "Go Normal". But the Golden people rebelled against it and litter screening was dropped. But what that does mean is that where a problem might be seen at one test it may appear to have disappeared by the next. If for example an owner protests a result which happened a lot in the early days then the problem may have disappeared by the time the dog was re-examined.
MRD is by no means a simple condition visible for life!
How damaging is it? Maybe the question should be, "How much impairment do you feel acceptable?" A small anomaly may not cause a problem in that dog, but will it continue to be only a small anomaly in offspring?? Will a large anomaly actually become detached as in full blown RD? there is reason to believe this has happened, although without understanding the DNA we really have no way of knowing that the two conditions are in fact the same thing or whether the dogs concerned did in fact suffer from two separate genetic conditions.
Hmm, I'm slightly confused here and I'm of course particular interested as it now turns out that a dog that I've used has been tested MRD affected 05/04-08 yet looking the same dog up on their Mate select database, the same dog passed an BVA eye test on 10th of JULY 2008? What is going on? This is exactly why it wont be long before I'll be giving up breeding
So, what now? should I get my own pup, which I've kept, to an BVA eye test ASP as well as advice all of the other puppy owners to do the same?

Could it be a second opinion passed him? A bitch coming to Tom recently by a well known chocolate sire failed her eye certificate on MRD but was told she was quite within her rights to go for a second opinion and the decision could be overturned and a clear issued....? (It wasn't....)

Fair point but only the failed test is listed on the MRD list and not the one 3 months later. There seems to be other dogs on the list which have failed on MRD but on a later date have passed only these have their other test results listed. I find it rather bizarre that there is no mentioning of the fail on Mate select (which used to be the Health database)...
