Basil assures me these are THE bestest ball to fetch and preferable to his tennis balls.....which is a shame as we have 50 odd of those and whilst he still adores them they are sooooo last year he says.

We haven't bought any of these but he and Nell keep finding them so they must be popular with other doggies (or not if abandoned?!)

He has complete ball envy if another dog has one. They have a lot of bounce and so he can do lots of lovely pirouettes and fancy manoevres to catch them and show off Cool

There's not much that gets him running like a nutter these days so I'm going to indulge him BUT these are a touch smaller than a tennis ball and I'm worried about the risk of them getting stuck tbh Confused Especially as he catches them with gusto.

Anyone seen similar anywhere (they're firm dense sponge) but bigger? More like the size of a large kong-tennis ball?

TIA

Brogie has these and assures Basil, they are indeed FAB! They shred really well too.... Rolling Eyes

I'm like you, I find them just a tad too small and even though Brogie is a petite girlie, I still worry.

When I worked in kennels years ago I had a Rottie I was walking get one of those big solid rubber balls get stuck in the back of his throat after jumping up to catch it.... it was awful, he staggered around and then collapsed, his eyes rolled back and he stopped breathing. Horrid. But mouth to mouth and chest compressions work and he came back. Not something I ever want to repeat!

Trina - yes that's exactly what i'm worried about, especially with how he launches to catch them fall.

I'm not even that keen on 'normal' sized tennis balls either since he's worked out how to carry two at once - not side by side even, but one behind the other - so one must be virtually in his throat Rolling Eyes
He gives one, then a little cough for the 2nd Shocked

Re the shredding, yes these are firmly for outdoor play not for indoor little modelling projects Cool

These are Monty's bestest bestest favourites! Laughing Laughing

He thinks they are fab and we have been using them for several years without any problems. They are soooo bouncey.

The only thing is that he keeps losing them - if he gets distracted by a potential doggy playmate on the park. Some retriever he is! Costs me a small fortune Rolling Eyes

And yes - he also does do the two in the mouth at the same time Smile

These are great in the chuck it, as they are heavier than tennis balls they go a lot further...lol

I buy the pets at homes ones and were still on the first 2 packs that i bought when Alfie came home. He doesn;t chew them thats what tennis balls are for.

I am sure i have seen them bigger.... in a shop like B & M or poundstrecher, wilkinsons... lol

We prefer those too at Chez Feebarn. They survive Hudson the ball killer very well!

we use these all the time and have had no problems, Honey does like to re- model them and makes a fair mess in doing so. the best thing is they float! we take the pink one to the beach cos it's easily spotted in the pebbles great fun!

Ok so Basils in good company with his latest love Laughing

Mumben - yes I'm thinking pink too Cool

June - Basil thanks dogs like Monty for leaving him treasure to find and play with Wink

Do I take it then i don't need to worry too much about risk of swallowing then if you all have them?

Do your dogs do all this sort of malarkey to catch?

Yes, and yes you are safe! Of all dogs that would try to swallow them, Huds would be the one and he hasn't. I'm sure we've had them 2 or more years now and I still have one of the original three.

Thanks Fee, I hadn't thought of *trying* to eat it Surprised and well Basil has swallowed a ball whole before - so he could eat a treat Rolling Eyes

I don't think he'd try swallow one of these though, just wondered if it could get wedged like Trina mentioned.
