... 5 placed rosettes and 3 clear rounds!
Luna really enjoyed the cooler evening competition of Thursday evening and ran REALLY speedily and consistently in the 2 Jumping classes winning 7th placed rosettes in both! The Primary Agility TFO she took a little more steadily so we finished 8th, just out of the rosettes, but she was running at about 1130pm - a time when we are often both tucked up in bed! We missed running the Primary Agility course due to arriving late
We skipped competing on Friday due to my being on a course for work
So Saturday:
She missed the weave entry in Primary Agility deciding that poles 2 and 3 were better than 1 and 2 to enter in so we picked up 5 faults and finished 17th.
We cleared the Intro Jumping course with my no longer trusting her to enter the weaves herself I stepped her into the right entry place - 28th place.
THEN we ran Intro Up N Under course FANTASTICALLY!!! gaining the highest place we ever have in a Jumping class - 6th place rosette! Before I even knew our placing I was WELL-chuffed because of the way we'd been able to run it together. The course had a straight tunnel in the middle with 2 jumps next to each other at each end. I ran it so that the first time through the tunnel Luna had to jump the right hand jump pulling away from me as she left the tunnel. The second time through the tunnel she had to jump the left hand jump again pulling away from me as she left the tunnel. I told her right, right, right and SHE DID!!! I told her left, left, left and SHE DID!!! This meant there was no faffing, no having to cross in front or behind her - just a flowing run around!!!! REALLY PLEASED!!!! All that directional training whilst walking on leash to and fro the off-lead areas near our house has paid off! She really can turn left and right with confidence!
Then the Primary Triple A Agility course we cleared and ran well - 9th placed rosette!
Sunday:
Luna got to have a long lie in in the car on the new cushion (behind locked tailgate with boot open!) while I helped on the rings because we didn't have a run until late morning - she ran a little steadier than the past couple of days but ran a lovely clear round on a fast course finishing 20th. (click to see video)
We headed into the Primary Agility class next and again those Left and Right commands made for a lovely clear round and 9th placed rosette. (click to see video)
We then ran Primary Agility 2 class which was exactly the same course as Primary Agility giving the opportunity to improve on any errors in the first run! Luna ran well although she left the see-saw a little earlier than I liked BUT as she was about to lift off to clear the final jump she remembered that the finish and leaving gate and MUM WITH BISCUIT was over on the left and pulled herself off the jump when she was about to take off and legged it! Luckily she came back as soon as I realised and jumped the jump but did get 5 faults for refusing the jump The down side to running the same course twice!
Our final run of the day was Intro Jumping - she was doing well - 5 jump recall to start! - until I tried to send her into a tunnel from further away than she liked so she pulled off entering thinking she was doing wrong - she's done this before too so something to practise! And then I told her to turn Right when I needed her to go Left!!!! That nearly got us E'd because she did turn right despite my left run! That muddle still left us with a clear round though and a 25th finish.
The rain was ridiculously heavy and persistent at times! My waterproof trousers became my best friends! But all part of the fun!!!
Tucker will be coming along to watch Big Sis at the next comp He has a lot of lovely dogs and people looking forward to meeting him!!! I've the feeling Luna will take great pride in introducing him around and teaching him which dogs LOVE kisses and hoolies and which prefer NOT to be lab-mobbed!!
Well done. She certainly knows how to find your mum when she finishes.
We did agility in the rain yesterday too - not much fun. Coco decided that although she is officially a large dog she doesn't want to do large jumps so she ducked under more than a few of them.
I wish we had BAA shows around here.
Do you ever do Agility Nuts shows? Our club goes to their events in Nottingham but I think theirs are UKA shows.
Well done, it sounds and looks like brilliant fun,
I might have to come with Toby and watch, Do they do a demolition Derby, Toby would win that 1.
Your house must be wall to wall rosettes now.
Looking forward to meeting Tucker and another GT looks like a good idea.
Take Care.
Gary and Toby.

WTG Luna!, what a clever girl you are, well done to you too Laura, she can`t do it without your help, loved the way she went looking for your mum for her biccie at the end of each round
Pam - Agility Nuts, no I don't go. Luna would have to jump higher than I would like at their shows. The organisers broke away from the BAA a few years back and set up Agility Nuts, I have learnt!
BAA are always on the look out for clubs that would like to run a show and whilst they are spreading down south, east and even a bit west at the moment, north shows are lacking. Get your club to get in touch or check out the website - the support is good in terms of organising!
