Hello,

Just wondering, for those of you with 3 or more dogs, what kind of car you have? And can you fit all in at once?

I have a Ford Fusion, which we've outgrown, but it'll do us for now with the back seats folded flat. It won't do forever though Laughing It's quite unstable because of the split level (where back seats are flattened), so I do think the hounds would be much happier in an estate of some description.

I really like the Volvo 4x4 looking thingy, but it'd have to be my commuter car too and I get really peed off with people commuting in big beasty vehicles. Maybe if I smeared it with mud it'd look more necessary. Anyway, reckon they're mega expensive anyway Rolling Eyes

It took me 2 years to decide on a Fusion, and if I'm looking to change in a year or so I'd better start thinking about it!!

Thanks Very Happy

Depends if you want dogs on the back seats or not! Wink

also depends if you expect to have passengers sitting on any of your seats!

I used to get 10 dogs in the VW Polo!!! (7 would be labradors - 4 on the back seat, three in the boot and 3 small dogs in the front)

Seriously though I have just bought a VW GOLF PLUS - you can make the boot bigger when you need it to be, by sliding the backseat backwards and forwards then put the backseat back to normal position when you have passengers. I intend to keep the seats free from dogs this time. The back seat is split into two and one seat, so you can adjust what you are doing in relation to putting in planks of wood or whatever.

My "golf plus" is FAB-U-LOUS!

(the only thing I have noticed is that "other" golf plus drivers seem to be OAP! Embarassed )

great head room too!

good luck in your search for a new car..... did I mention I happen to think my new car is fabulous? (only had it for two weeks!) Laughing Laughing

Thanks!

Well... I hate taxi-ing people around, so not being able to use back seats is fine Very Happy I would rather be able to take them out though rather than have them folded and the dogs on top of them, it's definitely too wobbly for them really.

I haven't heard of a golf plus, but like the idea of adjustable boot space... so can you get all 5 in the boot?

Also, I probably should have said, I'm very impatient so it has to be nippy Laughing

We have an X-Trail and it fits just about any number of dogs you might need to get in!

Have a look at a 207 SW or for bigger a 307 SW if you don't want anything as big as a 4wd. The other alternate is maybe a Qashqai, though we found it dissapointing in the snow.

My Ford Mondeo is the best. You might remember I have slept in it with five labradors on a few occasions. The seats in mine are permanently folded down, and the space is huge, and flat too. The dog hairs tend to prevent my children from asking for lifts too frequently.

Broken record moment for me. BMW 330d sport touring .

30+ mpg, all the dogs you want in boot, 3 with seats up, more with down, not much bigger than a ford focus. 0-60 in under 8 seconds and handles well.

Or 320 d sport touring,

40+ mpg, same for dogs and 0-60 in under 10.

Not too great in the mud and potholes, but fun and will make you smile Wink

LOL Muntjac, good space in that van.... worried it's too much space and there would be no stopping me adding dogs to the family!

I'm not against the size of a 4x4, just the potential for petrol guzzling? Guess that's something I should look into.

Shirley, a Mondeo is firmly on the list... I've never had anything other than a Ford so familiarity is appealing.

Fee, I like the x-trail, looks like it's excellent for space... but is it a guzzler?

Jac, that BMW looks lush Very Happy reckon a Focus would fit my budget better though Laughing

Thanks every one, few suggestions that will get me looking outside of my Ford comfort zone Smile

Hi,I have Rav4 and can get 4 labs in the boot, but they are all pretty little.(I normally have 3 in the boot and one very happily lies on the back seat)

When I flatten the back seats, which is really easy with the flick of a lever on either side,I have easily had 6 and could probably do 8 Laughing I sometimes have 5 and they all have space to lie down. Other smaller dogs can fit in the gaps! You can also just flatten one side so it's pretty flexible.

Barbara xx

PS. It's a 2.2 diesel and is pretty speedy, very comfortable and easily does 44 mpg. I love it....can you tell ? Smile

Until recently I had a Citroen Berlingo - seats were folded down for years then I took the double back seat out leaving just the single folded down as very rarely used.

Now have a Hyundai Terracan - the bigs plus one little in the back (has been the bigs plus the foster pup who is medium size) and crate on the backseat for Cassie, simply because China boxer bounces around and Cass could be crushed! Reggie Little has enough sense to get out of her way.
