I know there has been at least one thread on this in the past - but it was quite some time ago.

Is there anyone out there feeding, (or has fed) CSJ - and if so, which one(s) and what did you think of it?

if there is anyone who shows and uses it I would be particularly interested - but want feedback from anyone with experience.

The Reason?

We have a new local(ish) stockist and deliverer and they are pushing it REALLY hard.

I am fully aware that price and quality don't always go hand in hand - but the prices they are knocking their ranges out for seem ridiculously cheap - particularly the wheat / gluten and rice free products - which normally would most definitely be at the high end cost .

Any feedback appreciated Very Happy

Thanks
Sue

I must admit I'm interested too Sue. I've been looking at CSJ but would like some personal experiences.

Very Happy Very Happy

Hi Sue,

I use CSJ, but the premium 24.. I love it and my dogs do too.. Laughing

I pay around £32.00 for a 15kg bag. I prefer the 24 to the 21 as it has more omega oils in it. I like the fact it is 'additive' free.

Mine have been on it since Wilma and Walter were four months old. All of their coats have been excellent and when Winston (he is on it too) was at Harrogate show I was asked what food he was on as his coat looked so shiney and thick.. I get asked quite frequently the food I feed mine on.

I will still use Royal Canin when I am breeding though. It has worked really well for me in the past and i don't like to change a winning formula.. Four months in, I shall swap back to CSJ as I am not happy with the additives in Royal Canin. If they brought out a additive free, organic formula.. I think it would do really well...

Let me know how you get on.

Hayley x

Our Golden Retriever has been on CSJ for well over a year and is doing excellently on it. Its the best food he has ever been on and you can tell because he coat is looking great and his stools are good and consistent. I couldn't recommend CSJ highly enough!

I know what you mean about the price and how cheap it is, however it doesn't reflect the quality as the quality is excellent. Its cheaper because its vat free food from manufacturing because its done under working dogs and it doesn't have any rubbish in it. They also don't advertise and keep the packaging simple which helps to keep the prices low. They have a good range to choose from as well, so you can choose the right one for your dog. Even the cheaper ranges are very good quality and you couldn't get that kind of quality in other cheap food brand I have seen.

Harley is on Adult Champ and has it with there gravy occassionally. He has also had there herbie rings as well which he likes. We are getting a new pup soon and have just ordered Champ Puppy and wouldn't consider anything else but CSJ.

I recommend you check out there website as there is excellent information and they have reviews on each products. As you will see they are rated highly from kennels, breeders and general public etc.

The lady who runs the company is called Ceri and I suggest you contact her and she is more than happy to talk about the food, address any concerns etc. She is more than happy to send you some free samples and this is what we did with Harley. We got sent a box of samples and several bags of different ranges of there food. Like they suggested we let him choose and he choose the one he wanted - Champ.

I really would suggest you check it out, it has been the best food our dog has ever been on and we only wish we had know about it earlier. You have nothing to loose with the free samples as well Smile and Ceri is a lovely lady.

We buy from her online as its easier than our local supplier and we get paw points which can then be saved and used against buying food for them. Its already saved us a lot already Smile and there postage prices are OK. Although if you have a good local supplier its probably the better option for you however if you did want to buy online I could send you a special recommendation, it would then help to feed Harley and Myka Smile and think you might get a discount too. Just let me know which one you wanted as they have a big range.

Anyway hope this helped and happy to talk by PM if you like Smile.

Rose

Edited to add a few more bits and correct the bits that didn't make sense.

Mr Todd cant tolerate, wheat, chicken, dairy, fish. Most of the 'sensitive' foods are so expensive and very low in protein.

Tried CSJ its Ok, but couldnt keep weight on him. I think perhaps it has too much grain.
Found Vitalin Lamb and Rice £27.99. Higher protein and higher Lamb content, no other grain than rice.
What a difference. Small solid poos. He is now begining to body up.

Now find that Vitalin has gone bust and has been bought by Alpha feeds - so price may go up. Nevertheless are still much cheaper than most.

CSJ only 19.95, but as I say a high grain content. I think for dog who can put anything down their gut it is great. Sensitive tums - well you can only try it.

Sue - I'm sure I remember KayC using it (think she was a supplier) as I looked at it ages ago but settled on Autarky.

Thought I felt my ears burning Laughing

Sue I fed my lot on it for around 18months... I bought a whole pallets, (1 ton at a time )just over £1000 worth and got it at cost, so around £720 cash. not worth shipping costs to bring it up here for any less. BUT.. I had difficulty storing it, mice also love it.. too darned much lol.. so when I finished the ton, I stopped buying it...

The dogs did very well on it.. I bought mixed pallets, so all dogs were on different foods.. Hunter and another couple were on the premium, the others on lesser priced. and to be honest.. I noticed no difference in the condition of the dogs, and output was possibly the best I have had except for what we are feeding now (Fish for dogs)

I also raised 3 litters of pups on CSJ puppy

Storage is the only reason I don't have it shipped in bulk to Scotland.. and no local stockist yet

Although I think I am still listed as a stockist n the website, not checked for a while

Thanks everyone - some good and useful feedback.

Personally, I don't see any benefit in samples, all they will tell you is whether the dog likes it or not - and mine will eat pretty much everything.

Samples won't tell you if you are going to treble their poo output or affect their coats and overall wellbeing Sad only using it for a reasonable period will do that Sad

These guys are putting it out for £30.50 a bag (same as the CSJ online store)

That surprised me with regards to the Omega oils, because of the natural presence of Omega 3 and 6 in Salmon - whereas Lamb can be high in Omega 3 dependent on their diet.

It doesn't actually give you an indication of the Omega Oils contained in the food - just the ration of 6 to 3 in each variation - there must be some heavy supplmentation going on for the ratio of 6 to 3 to be so high in a Lamb based diet.

===============================

Certainly sounds like it could be worth a shot - the Wheat / Gluten free element of the CP range particularly (and probably obviously) appeals to me - knowing how things have changed since my coeliac diagnosis - and how basically - the majority of foods containing gluten are generally ( with some exceptions) healthy.

Aside from whether it agrees with them (and most things do) - my biggest concerns are around local availability and minimum order sizes - one of the reasons I eventually ditched AG - when they failed to inform customers there was a three week backlog for deliveries and muggins has a litter of pups.

While I will switch foods in an older pup / adult without evening thinking about it - I won't do the same with my little babies Rolling Eyes

I've got no plans to change Clover, Hally, Dylan or Dream at the moment (Hally is thriving like you wouldn't believe on the Iams Senior) and Clover and Dream are now on Burns High Oars (I really will find myself eating my words one of these days after saying I will never feed Burns again Embarassed ) -

Will have to use Moz, Bronte and Hopey as my guinea pigs - see how they get on with it Very Happy

I found samples useful as Harley has always been picky when it comes to biscuits so for me they helped.

As for whether the food will treble their poo output etc. We found that it helped if anything and his stools were regular and healthy (if that makes any sense). I think he poo's less on CSJ than the food he was on before. And as said before his coat and overall well being is good.

Anyway hope I helped and sounds like your going to give it ago, I hope it works well for the dogs you want to try it on.

Rose Smile

Sue, I've just been checking out the ingredients for CSJ out of interest... and thought I'd just mention that Simpsons premium rice ranges compare very favourably but with brown rice instead of white, which in my opinion is a good thing. Their list price is eg 32.35 for salmon and rice, but with the breeder's discount it's £26 (15 Kg), and the lamb and chicken varieties are only £23. I personally feed their salmon and potato which is easily the best dog food I've ever come across and costs £28 for 15 Kg. The only thing is that you have to pay £4 postage, but that's a flat rate per order and delivery is ALWAYS next day... in 2 years they haven't let me down, even texting to say what time it will be delivered Very Happy

I know me and Daisyyy on here always harp on about it, we don't get any commission Laughing ... but it's soooo exceptionally good and bargainous that I can't help but mention it when people are considering similar quality foods Wink
