Homebase renewal is more than a new quote from them Rolling Eyes do they not reward loyalty anymore Rolling Eyes ! (will phone when have better quote to find out Wink !)

I want lifetime cover for her.
Pay out per year unlimited or high eg 5k+
Pay out per condition..... is 2k enough???

Bear in mind that any elbow problem would be a pre-existing condition and not covered so I have a little pile of Luna-money put aside just in case.

I'm thinking that if she was a younger unknown dog I'd go for 7k per condition policy but as she seems fit and well and I do have a bit aside incase 2k would cover? Thoughts? Experiences?

Has anyone had experience with either John Lewis? Argos? Animal Friends?

I am looking around at the moment as well. A lot of online quotes are for the first year only to entice you in then it jumps on year 2.

I am more or less stuck with Tesco for China as her heart murmur was officially discovered after the policy started.

Animal Friends - looked good price wise and ethics wise but some of the reviews are rather dubious! Mind you - people tend to put bad experiences on and not bother with good ones, so that could be a very small percentage of the overall claims.

Big boys do Flyball - I had wondered about Accident only for them but then thought maybe if there is wear and tear from the jumping it would be better to have full cover in case of problems in the future (or if they have an accident claim for something flyball related rather than a complete accident out of the blue which then needs painkillers etc forever).

Cassie - already exclusions for anything heart and eye related. Did take full cover as so little difference to the accident only one but this year the premium seems to have jumped wildly for her (sure it was less than £10 last year!) so may "drop" her cover and just do a high interest account instead as I have for previous oldies. She will be officially 8 in November, she has an enlarged heart plus a heart murmur - which she is on meds for, the vet and I have agreed that although her teeth are a bit manky it is not worth the high risk of a GA to correct them unless they cause problems.

Reggie - is with me as a lifetime foster as we cannot rehome as he bit once when petrified. He is way beyond this now but it has to be declared on any insurance, so do I take out a policy for him or not? Covered for public liability under CARE's insurance while a foster (plus I am a member of Dogs Trust so covered under that and apparently most household insurance has a clause for it as well).

Have spoken to someone who is an insurance broker although he does not deal in pet insurance. He is going to look around for me to see if there are any companies he more "trustworthy" than others for claims.

Hello Laura

I took out John Lewis insurance which seemed a very good deal and a good price. However I haven't claimed on it yet (fortunately) and as Bonnie is only 7 months I don't know what the renewal price will be.

Sorry I know that's not really much help to you.

I only wish I were able to shop around - but pre-existing conditions compel us to stay with Petplan - and I have to admit that they have been good (so far, fingers crossed!)

I would advise anybody to go for the max that they can afford - you never know what lies around the corner Rolling Eyes

I think pet insurance companies should offer a no claims discount instead of hiking their prices up each year.

Be aware that if you change your policy with your current provider they might still take it that you are a new customer and therefore exclude pre-existing conditions.

With my last dog we hadn't claimed during the first year and the 2nd year continuation quote was higher than the new customer on-line cost (and you got your annual booster vaccination free). So it was worth me starting a new policy to overlap the first by 14 days to get the discount. However, had we got any pre-existing conditions these would not have been covered on the new policy despite it being with the same company.

We are stuck with Direct Line for life now due to various vet visits. It's a good job I'm happy with them - I just hope they don't take advantage and raise the prices too much.

hm - quite impressed with one on that site then found out it was for USA.....

Direct line - you have to confirm you do not work at home! Would have thought that would be cheaper insurance as you are there to supervise the dogs???

Found one which offers "tenant cover" ie if you are in tenanted property any damage to the house is covered.... same firm does "normal" cover BUT it excludes broken bones! Not much good for the boys with flyball then.
