The KC is purely a register for the litters breeders provide. They are not there to advertise and sell your pups for you.

Now if someone called me about my litter and asked price first, then I would tell them. Most have asked and been told and other than one, all have accepted the price, or gone elsewhere. It's a buyer market at the moment.

I have asked everyone that has expressed an interest for an email address. In that email I have sent a 5 gen pedigree, photos of mum and Dad, photos of the pups at 2, 4 and 5 weeks. As they now have the Mum and Dad's KC name, then CAN if they are so inclined, go and check the health tests on the KC website. It's not difficult, and if you don't then as a buyer, you're not doing YOUR job properly.

Those that have decided to have a pup and have expressed an interest in a particular pup have been getting updates on the little monsters every couple of days or so.

There are, and you get it in all different types, people who try it on with the price. Now I accept this, and I have done it myself on many occasions. My issue is when you get one person negotiating on a price for a pup. I don't think it has anything to do with them not being able to afford it, but more from the possibility they come from a sales background, where you DO negotiate. However, I firmly believe that with a dog, the price should be the price and you don't negotiate. I was quoted £850 for a pup once, it didn't even enter my mind to ask for a special price. Personally, I think it's disrespectful to the breeder, and cheapens the pup.

Website advert pricing. Well it could be a number of reasons why pricing isn't displayed. Could be there isn't anywhere to put the price, or you put it in the body of the advert, and then the buyer just didn't see it. We have all heard the stories of people calling up for a yellow dog, when the advert clearly states the litter was all black.

As to different prices for dogs and bitches. Sorry they're the same price irrespective of the s*x. I had this same discussion with a couple of other breeders, and all to a man(woman) stated they have one price.

Thanks Martin,
Some good tips there and I agree that it should be one price whatever the sex of the dog. Very Happy

That's not a problem. You are entitled to your opinion, and we all have bad days. I normally have one Friday. I hate weekends, they get in the way of work...

I have had 2 litters and have on both occasions put the price up on my website or on champdogs. My thoughts are that if a potential puppy buyer queries the price then they haven't really put much though into buying a dog and probably don't realise the cost involved in having a pup.

the price was £850
Surprised for a pup in Scotland!! That is way above the cost up here. At the moment a pup here is Scotland is between £600-£700.

It was down on the Scottish Borders, around Dumfries. And as that really should belong to England, we can forgive the Sassenach pricing...

Oh, and the person from my original message? I'll quote. "I lost a large contract so can't afford a puppy at the moment".

Well that answers that question. They couldn't afford the puppy in the first place.
