Really one for the long term breeders out there, so please step forward, don't be shy.
I have been asked by one potential female buyer whether there was any negotiating on the price. And this was said in a very girlie squeaky "oh, pretty please" type of voice. I have offered to have the pup micro chipped for her, but vaccinations are up to her.
So the question is, do you allow people to negotiate or do you stick to your guns, and say that's it...
No - if they can't afford to buy the pup how an earth are they going to pay the huge bills that will roll in for food, vets bills, insurance................. Need I say more .
Seriously Martin it would make me think that when the bills for a pup start rolling in they will bung it on the Free-Ads!!
Absolutely NOT and they would have been straight of my list as well, there is no way I would allow one of my puppies to go to someone who would barter the price.

I know I'm not a breeder but I read this and just wanted to comment.
I have always looked for puppies with a price in my head of what I could afford reasonably to pay, I have never once asked for a discount. I really don't think it is a good way to start a relationship with a breeder and puppy - trying to get a bargain. It doesn't sit easily for me. I have called people who have said £850 and I have just said thanks but that's a little to high and left it.
I agree starting to quibble on price, for you to drop it maybe £50 is just silly - how will they ever afford it when the going gets tough?
I would steer clear - it is also something you don't want to become known for. Sell on cheaper and everyone will know (these things spread like wildfire!) and before you know it everyone will come to you as the man the sells them for less.
P.s. More puppy pics required
As the others have said, No, the price of he pups stay the same. If they cant afford it then then they look elsewhere. I was once asked if they had two will I accept £750 for the two. I politly explained that (1) I wont sell two to the same home. (2) I am not like Tesco and dont do Buy One get One Half Price
As a buyer of one pup - I accepted the price he charged me and was VERY willing to pay for the trouble and cost of getting her vaccinated, microchipped and cared for for the extra month until I could take her home.
Save up your pennies and ensure you can afford a quality dog and their upkeep IMO.
I was brought up to ensure you can pay for what you purchase and if that means waiting and saving for years - so be it! It's worth the pleasure of having no worries and the anticipation ensures you enjoy to the full!!
P.s. More puppy pics required
More piccies to follow.
The person in question actually has a KC Crufts winner progeny dog already. They have asked whether I can keep the pup for a little longer, and rather than them putting it in kennels when they go on holiday, can I look after BOTH of them. Their existing and the pup.
My answer to her was that I am happy to get it microchipped, jabs are her responsibility, but if she wants me to do those, then to pup stays here until 10 weeks old, but the price stays the same. In effect I am being asked to pay for her to have the pup chipped and jabbed, and then she is asking for discount. I won't tell you my OH's remarks. However, I do agree. It's a price for a reason, if they are quibbling on price now, can they afford crates, food, bowls, toys, vets bills, insurance - which I am advising people shoul have. Oh, and not the Tesco pet insurance either.
For info. Most were gone in the space of 2 weeks. I have had a couple of people saying they want to reserve, but then 3 days later saying they have found another pup. so I've had prospective owners, in and out over the last couple of weeks. Damn annoying. I had 1 girl, but 5 people after her. What do you do when you have someone down the list actually put the money on the table and say I want it, and there's the cash?
What cutie pups! That's certainly satisfied my puppy broodiness for today
I'm no breeder, but I've bought my fair share of pups and know the experience of others who have bought even more. I think what she's asking is very very unreasonable. Unless of course you know this woman well, and knew her before, asking the breeder of your new pup to look after your current dog is insane! Sorry if I've read that incorrectly. The first few weeks of older dog-new pup interactions need to be managed very very carefully, it's not something you palm off on someone else
I have heard of breeders keeping dogs a little longer due to holidays etc, but I believe most buyers at least offer to pay for the extra costs of food, microchips, vaccinations that the breeder will incur. And maybe even more in acknowledgment of the fact that pups need so much more individual time after 8 weeks. The fact that she's not offering AND looking for a discount would put me right off I'm afraid.
And as to her owning progeny of Crufts winners, well I hope she doesn't think that makes her an exemplary owner, or that it should satisfy you that another breeder of such 'quality' has thought her a good owner.... it is not difficult to find pups sired by such dogs, and I'm afraid it isn't necessarily indicative of good breeding.
Good luck making your decision about this, it's one thing that really scares me about breeding... what if I thought no one was good enough and ended up keeping the lot
