But how about going into your local independant reatiler & asking to come to some kind of deal on a bulk buy ??? You never know, they might surprise youi Wink :

Nowhere locally stocks it, and we asked our local animal feeds please and he wasn't interested in trying to get some in for us. I did contact Viovet as well to see if they would do anything if we were to order regularly but they haven't even called me back. The last two brands of food we have fed the dogs have come straight from the supplier and we've had a discounted rate for ordering larger quantities, I guess I never thought about the bigger picture.

I have to say with the number of dogs here I have been looking around to change food recently. Obviously I am in a different league to most on LF numbers wise.

I have always been happy with Skinners and buy at Trade prices, but I think I am noticing quite a few price increases recently and maybe a slight decline in the quality of the product.

Barking heads is not an option with the number of dogs I have, although obviously I know how pleased Mo is with it.

I have found some good deals around on Forthglade Natural Menu and I have been using this for my Oldie with all his health issues and for Spice after her litter. This will probably be the last litter that I raise on Skinners Field & Trial Puppy (which I will mix with the Forthglade Natural Menu this time round).

I have been looking at the mills locally and will probably opt for an own mill brand that comes in there own brand sack. When you compare the ingredients with other market leaders they actually compare very favourably.

I do think that in these more difficult times financially some of the dog food manufacturers are tending to price themselves out of the market and it is probably up to us as multiple dog owners to keep a close eye on what is happening, and make sure we are getting the best value and quality in our dogs food.

An addendum from me too - I couldn't decide on a dried food to try as a replacement for skinners. So I dragged OH to comet and bought a second freezer for the cellar (the cheapest, undercounter-sized chest freezer) and moved from my half raw feeding to all raw feeding. I can already see the difference in output - no more stinky, slightly sloppier poos!!

Mo... how does the cost compare considering you're feeding less BH than skinners?

I've only just seen this Sam. Sorry for taking ages to come back to the thread. I haven't properly worked the cost out, but it does feel as if I'm saving money - probably not saving much though as skinners is a good bit cheaper than BH.
