Dear all

Some time back there used to be a forum called Lost Labs, it was set up specifically to help find lost labradors, and was run by two amazing people who are now no longer members of the forums, it was hard work and they eventually decided to resign.

Lost Labs had money donated to it by Lab forum members and those who's dogs were missing and we accruded a tidy sum of £1400 ( a few pennies)

We ummed and arred as to what to do with this money and I suggested it would be great to sponsor a dog or two on behalf of the Lab Forums members, it would benefit 2 or 3 dogs directly and we could all follow their stories etc and 'own' a little piece of them if you like.

A few months back I put on a post asking for people to suggest dogs that were in rescue on permenant foster that needed some help and Angela replied with some suggested Oldies, Lab x's to be precise so we decided after reading their stories that we would help these dogs on your behalf.

In addition to that, knowing that there are other rescue with sponsor dogs we want to make it a monthly thing and ask Rescue to let us know of any dogs that need sponsoring, we can than raise money as Lab forums members and sponsor a dog, also encouraging others perhaps to do so.

Angela will put a write up later on the dogs we have sponsored and keep us up to date with how they are doing.

That is a lovely idea.

(Hastens to add we have dogs out on foster but only routine vet bills for them so no need for us to put any forward - yet!!)

Just a quick message from me to say a huge THANK YOU on behalf of Oldies Club, for thinking of our dogs.

I'm feeling rather rubbish this weekend and finding it very hard to look at a computer for long, so I will come back and post more when I can look at the screen without feeling like this, but just wanted to say thank you flower

Hello, sorry for the delay. Thank you again, very much, for supporting Oldies Club. Now to introduce you to two of our lovely sponsor dogs ...

Grandma Kyro (what an adorable face!):

Kyro is a 12 year old Labrador x Beagle. She is a rather sensitive soul and not the easiest of dogs and she has taken some time to settle with her foster family, who have been wonderful and patient with her. She has mellowed over the last few months and has become very settled with her foster family.

Oldies Club hasn’t received a single enquiry for Kryo in the time she has been listed for adoption and was concerned about how she would cope with a move to a new home if someone suitable did offer to adopt her.

We have therefore decided that it would be in Kyro’s best interest to become a sponsor dog, meaning she will remain with her current foster family permanently, with the charity continuing to cover her vet bills Smile We are very grateful to her foster family, who are very happy to keep Kyro on a permanent basis Smile

and Charming Charlie, a ten year old Labrador x Collie:

After coming into Oldies Club care, Charlie was diagnosed with CDRM (Canine degenerative myelopathy) – an untreatable degenerative condition. He is currently still enjoying life and gets on well with other dogs, kids and cats. Due to his condition, he also became an Oldies Club sponsor dog, which means he got to stay in his foster home permanently, with the charity covering his vet bills.

Thank you again, from Oldies Club - and if anyone is thinking of getting a dog, we have plenty of very adoptable older dogs (aged 7+) of all sorts of breeds and crosses, available right now: http://www.oldies.org.uk

They are both gorgeous dogs and Charlie in particular is somewhat special as it was a similar dog called Dudley who ended up with Tailends due to CDRM, it bought a lot of LF members together getting him to safety along with Rochdale dog rescue. Sadly Dudley passed away in Tailends care a few years back.
