With 3 different dogs I can say that it really does depend on the dog.

Labrador - takes out the soft undercoat with out removal of the top coat

Cross breed (Wolfhound/Labrador coat ) - When Molly is in full coat absolutely useless, her coat is way to thick and long and it actually 'strips' the hair and is painful for her, but when she has been clipped it take the undercoart out only

Utonagan (Husky type coat) - Brilliant on this type of coat that sheds all year, but also has two coat changes every year, take the cotton wool undercoat out really well.

love it. It's saved my sanity too.

Have never seen it take anything out of a dogs coat than the soft dead undercoat, which was about to be 'Tumblehair' on my kitchen floor. Definately never, ever seen it 'cut' hair and that's after three years use on three labs with varying coats from thick and felt like to sleek and fine...

I use a furminator on Molly, it was recommended by a very reliable source. Initially I was sceptical and thought it was cutting the coat so I tried it on my own hair!! No, it definitely doesn't cut! Molly has had her pre season coat shed and now looks wonderful again. She too has a double coat and looks much heavier than when she has shed her coat. I used the furminator on her today and nothing came out.

I have never had that happen. It doesn't matter how long I sit there with B I never reach 'the end', it drives me potty Laughing

Out of interest is there any difference in the blades for the different sizes, sml, med, lge? I know it's a wider brush, but the cutting blade bit is that essentially the same gaps in the teeth?

I wonder if my furminator is duff. Trace does Basil at the kennels and he comes home looking much better!

Carole, Molly was great fun to furminate here, we covered the floor, as we do with many dogs that come to us!

Sarah I use the large one on Basil, not sure what size yours is.

I have to say that I have been using the furminator for a couple of years now and I sell them here at the kennels. It is a great selling point when you have a lab in with a blowing coat and give the owners a demo! But having said that I would not sell them if I didnt know how well they work and how good they actually do on my dogs coats.

I have lots of labs, working and show, and good double coats and some with thinner coats, thinner coats only need a couple of good goes when they are shedding whereas the double heavier coated girls take a lot more doing, once every three days for a couple of weeks I would say. But I would never say it ruined any of their coats, just made them more comfortable getting rid of all those thick tufts and masses of hair, that would have taken forever to come out with a good old flea comb that I used to use.

I too gave a guy a demo on my long hair to prove it didnt cut it!!

Have to add, I don't show my girls but their coats seem to come back really well after a good furminate.

Edited to add, that they work on all breeds apart from really soft curly coats like a goldie x poodle we had in or a soft coated wheaten terrier, all the rest whether it be a long or short coat it works on.

Trace x
