She wondered off sniffling in the field as normal - I turned around to check she was moving on with me and she was rolling
When we continued onwards I noticed she looked wet and alarm bells should have rung then - I wish I'd headed back to see what she'd rolled in but anyhow I put it down to a puddle and continued on. (May go for a look-see on this evening's walk...)
I realised it was oil when someone we bumped into reached down to stroke her before I could warn them and came up going 'Eugh! Oil... that's transmission fluid that is....' (he was apparently a retired mechanic) Whatever oil it is is clear and doesn't really smell.
So we got home and she got well and truly hosed down and endured 3 shampoos (more of a clean than she's ever had before!). Once she had dried off though the oil was still there - so out came the big guns, fairy liquid!
Now I can see the oil solidifying on the end of her fur - will using warm water rather than cold with the fairy rid her coat of this yucky stuff?
She's got a swim booked at hydro pool for Friday and I'm pretty sure they won't be impressed if she turns up oily! I'm pretty sure she will be even less impressed with being put in the bath and showered than she was with being lathered and hosed in the garden!
Definitely use warm water, the warmer the better, as cold will just make the oil go all globuley.
If she is dry and you can see the oil collecting on the ends, then try wiping her over with some kitchen roll before bathing her, as hopefully that will soak up some of the oil before you get her wet.
I don't know how big an area you're talking about, but as an absolute last attempt, you could try antisceptic wipes? I haven't lost my marbles, it's just that they're all alcohol-y, and if I learned anything from biochemistry, it's that a solvent will clean up an oil. If you have any rubbing alcohol that'd be even better. Sure it's not the best thing for her coat, but neither is frantic shampooing, maybe if you just wipe in the direction of the fur so as to avoid getting too much on her skin.... if you're stuck, it could be worth a try! Good luck!!!
I've been using kitchen roll to wipe off the solidifying bits on the end of her fur - it's a continuous process!
I think the area is too big for the couple of alcohol wipes I've got in - have lots of drinking alcohol that I'm a little reluctant to cover her in!!!!
I'll let her dinner go down safely and then attempt to bath her one final time in warm water. The new bathroom is in for a soaking!!!!! - FUN!!!
I have no other ideas just wanted to say..........LOOOOOOOOOOONA you likkle monkey. Blimey you cause your mum some trouble. Hope you manage to get it off Laura
Barbara xx
Lots said to say she'd send you a nice lick but doesn't fancy an oily tongue
I used Fairy liquid on Amber with success but Murphy once got Tar on him off the telegraph pole outside the house and I gave up trying to get it off and just trimmed the fur, it soon grew back..if you really struggle with the oil then I would just trim off the mucky bits off coat!
